Racial Disparity in US Prisons - Any chance this about income/class and not race?

I think the part of this that won't go away is the later in life subsidy
without representation. If you tell me that doing a thing will cause me
pain and I do it, feeling pain, there's a point at which you (as a fellow
human, friend, or relative) feel the need to step in and assist. Sadly, our
government doesn't allow that time to pass so the person has a chance to
experience the results, they step in with your money and mine and pay to
correct the consequences of decisions by overeaters, non-exercisers,
smokers, and other risk-takers using tax dollars they receive from you and
I. Hence, the argument that there is an actual victimless crime is a bit
difficult to make.

I would suggest the marijuana falls into that category when I am impacted
by the complete idiocy, laziness, or other in/action of another human who
chose to kill his/her brain cells. It's also "against the law" in case
there needs to be an additional reason for folks not to indulge.

Perhaps we could invent drug-users insurance. Force them to self-report and
pay an extra $100 per month and then use all the drugs they want. Then, no
matter what happens to them that resulted from the drug use, the insurance
covers it. Hang on, let me fire off a memo to the President and his press
secretary. He smoked just enough to think that these folks would a) pony up
$100/month and b) self-report.

Introduction
I prefer to be called Carter, though I have grown accustomed to answering to most any variation that remains respectful.
I learned from the UPS manual that a leader does not need to remind others of authority by use of title. Knowledge, performance, and capacity should be adequate evidence of position and leadership.

Awesome service!!! Called them after patiently waiting for 2 of the hottest weeks of 2012 for another HVAC company to get back to me (was prepared to pay cash and not shop the price). Heritage called same day I inquired online and sent someone out to estimate. Installed a new system the next business day (heard from the other company the next week)! My new favorite for Heating and Air-conditioning!

I had a couple things that needed work, including a dripping shower. I was told they ordered a part and would come back after it arrived. It's been months - still dripping - not so Elite in my book. Good thing we settled before he left or I'd still owe the $100 plus per hour I was honored to pay.

Their coffee was great and the atmosphere, too. Unfortunately they are not there anymore and the website is gone. Another non-Starbucks bites the dust. Check out the Coffee Beanery about 1/2 mile West of there on Hwy 96 across from the Chophouse.

Got a great price on our downstairs unit a couple of years ago. The upstairs AC unit started blowing hot two weeks ago, so I emailed them on Thursday night (almost 2 weeks ago) and was told they would have someone here Monday around 1. *On Monday night, I sent I'm guessing we won't be seeing anyone today. Is tomorrow more promising? I got a visit Tuesday and a promise to be contacted to schedule replacement. *On Wed, I sent - My understanding is that the outside unit needs to be replaced. Is there any more you need from me before we start discussing that process? * I was told Greg would contact me. *That was 6 days ago, and I have stopped waiting. Nice people, but that only goes so far . . .

What a great source for locally-grown, fresh, healthy, and affordable vegetables, fruit, meat, coffee, and many other things. Take a Saturday morning and add a trip to the Farmers' Market - start the day and weekend off right! My favorite farmers are at the Flying-S booth. Stop by and tell Ben & Catherine hello!

I drive 600 miles/week, 9 months out of the year and was transitioning from a 2003 with 170K miles. I narrowed my search to cars under 22K that got 35-40 MPG. The local Hyundai dealer only used email to get my phone number. Janet MacGirr was a pleasure to work with, as was Marty Lang in Finance. The purchase of a new 2012 Accord LX-P was smooth and the car is still wonderful after 3 days. Will post any changes if warranted once the service calls start.
