Introduction
I am a passionate amateur photographer and rather shoot things than people.

Therefore I am more interested in constructive criticism than in plain "awesome picture" comments. Tell me what I can do better!

For a living I am a software user interface developer designing high priced enterprise software.

How to get blocked (a little rant)

Just in case you want to get blocked by me here on Google+, here are two simple ways on how to achieve this:

(1)
Repeatedly invite me to the same community, after I've declined your first request.
I am not interested in communities with broad topics. There is a reason why I declined your first invite and I will not change my mind with your second, third, fourth,... invite. I can choose my communities on my own - and so far I have joined only very few.
A sure shot to get blocked is to invite me to your own personal community, where you expect me to share my photos for you.

(2)
When posting an update always select your circles instead of 'Public' and make sure to check the checkbox on the bottom to email all 500 participants of each of your circle of your update of paramount importance.
If you think that your update requires this kind of attention in my notification stream it's probably not that great and not worth viewing. It's just plain annoying having to read this kind of unsolicited noise (or SPAM) between my notifications! If I think you post great stuff, changes are that I will already have you in my circles. If not - annoying me won't help.

And finally to all those that refrain from (1) and (2): THANK YOU

Looks like a very interesting new lens from Lensbaby. Very smooth, dreamy results plus macro capabilities.

Calm after the storm

We had some very stormy days in Central Europe. Yesterday was the first calm day.

Schwarzenbachtalsperre, Black Forrest. Long exposure with ND 3.0 filter.

Non-animated version of the solar eclipse today.
(Animated version here: https://plus.google.com/+CarstenSchlipf/posts/ijdbw4fWc3e)

I've used my Sigma 70-200mm with a 2x teleconverter and the combination of two ND filters (1000x and 64x or ND 3.0^10 / ND 1.8^10 / ND 10 Stop and ND 6 Stop). Also sometimes my older crop camera has its purpose, so I was able to raise the effective focal length to 640 mm. Despite using fully manual mode some exposures were darker than others. Still no idea why. Exif data tell me the same exposure settings. Maybe white balance, which I forgot to set to manual? Or just thin layers of clouds passing by.

Exactly my thoughts and why I will keep my old-fashioned Canon 6D for now. Mirrorless is not there for me yet.

Mirrorless is the new frontier, no doubt about it.
If you're wanting to dive in now, you really have to decide what YOU need. Forget what everyone is saying. All the systems are so good... it just boils down to YOU.

Personally... my ideal set up isn't actually made yet. But I need to lighten my load, for a whole host of reasons, which I've been talking about on my blog. The first 3 chapters of this story involved Sony. The first two are here: http://bit.ly/1FXWf2y and here: http://bit.ly/1FORWDX.  The 3rd is below.

I'm entering this conversation in the spirit of discovery. Being a consumer, trying to sort it all out. I decided to forget what I thought I knew, open my mind to new knowledge, figure out my own personal bottom line and dig in.

Yes, I began with Sony, but my bottom line: it just isn't going to work for me right now. It's awesome gear, but like I say... you have to decide what will float your boat, where you can compromise and where you can't. Because you WILL have to compromise, no matter where you go. Mirrorless is still the wild west and it's changing fast!

I'm on to my next system now. I'll post about that here soon... although it IS on my blog now, if you're interested in this stuff. We have great conversations going on over there!
Here goes: my quest to find a light, mirrorless camera system that'll take my creativity & art where I want it to. Today: Sony & why it went back.

On the tower

The look-out tower on the Killesberg, where you have a great view over the city of Stuttgart. Taken with a Lensbaby during the +Drink and Click™ Stuttgart, Germany event in February.

Vielen Dank, +Richard Kralicek. Keine Ahnung, was ich hier für eine Blende hatte. Ich wollte nur eine halbwegige Schärfenverteilung von 50% haben.
