Fact is stranger than fiction. #AVFTE   This is what I call #edgy . From a top business magazine:   "The deadly and highly contagious Ebola virus killed at least 60 people in Guinea....:-(.  Guinea's health minister banned the sale and consumption of bats."  BATS!!     :-0

Isn't that amazing in our eyes? Maybe that culture would consider Pink Slime beneath contempt!

Hey everyone. If you would like an HOA for grownups with a wild and whacky sense of style and humor, I can recommend #AVFTE.  I belong to the community and I like what they do. A great group of people (and they let ME be a guest on their show, so I really like them).  Check it out Thursdays.

#AVFTE friends, we would appreciate a little help.  As you can see by the pinned announcement, our next HOA, The Stephanie Tippie show will be this Thursday, April 17 at 11:00 AM ET. Number one, please come join us and watch the show live if possible or on YouTube if not. Second, invite your friends to the show and share the event to the public. We are working very hard each week to put out a quality HOA so you can be proud to include your friends.  Thank you in advance for all of the help you give us and for being a part of #AVFTE!

It's Monday so it's  time for a bit about international differences. How many "Englishes" are there? What's the difference between English-English and American-English?  We talk it over, to hilarious effect. (I still laugh when I read this, and I wrote it!) Hope you enjoy it.
I still laugh to myself when people contact us and say, “I want to improve my American English”.  It’s not that the request itself is humorous; it’s that it reminds me of a conversation between me (American) and my partner Linda (from England).  We were talking about the differences between American English and British English …

Very #Edgy - in French.
Spoken by a female character in one of Molière's plays.  (Molière was a very big deal playwright.)  «Si vous me réduisez au désespoir, je vous avertis qu’une femme en cet état est capable de tout. »  In English, as Carrie understands it, " If you reduce me to hopelessness, I warn you that a woman in that condition is capable of anything."

Since Molière was born in 1622, it goes to show we HAVEN'T LEARNED YET.

Yeah, but does it make you edgy Zara?  I love the implied warning or threat in Molière's text.  The 17c version of "Don't mess with me, dude." no?

Great article, describing the way the profit-less startups enrich some and impoverish others - and tells us the music will stop someday. I have been concerned about this for some time, and Kevin Roose writes very well about it.
Should middle-class retirees be subsidizing my delivery meals and car rides?

+Carrie Ballard I feel your observation of having "never having seen the person" is brilliant. Seems almost a numbers game.  The co-founder of a company called #Buffer  tolf an amazing story in a blog post of the things you don't need as a startup.  One was a perfect e-commerce/sales transaction system.  He said when he first started out it wasn't perfect but when the customer's would contact him for help, it struck up conversations! Thus, he was coming as close to "seeing" these people as you can expect to do in this environment.

Introduce your startup  -

Hi everyone, I have posted my idea before, but after reading your 'Introduce your startup' posts, I think I need to be shorter and more precise, like you guys. So here is my attempt to be more precise.

We have a solution to the following problem faced by busy startups.  Here's  our entrepreneur, Sylvie,:  "To build a global audience, we have to write our blog, our news, our stories, our pages in English.  O mon dieu!  We have to sound awesome but are we sure our writing is awesome in English? We want our list of sign ups to grow faster. We need a high-quality, fast way to produce material every day, without hiring an editor or a language teacher - too expensive, and too slow."

Is that any shorter? Or clearer? Thank you.
