Introduction

Carri Bugbee is an internationally known expert and award-winner in the arena of social media marketing and social TV. She speaks at many conferences and events, writes about  social TV (and music) for The Social Media Monthly, and was a contributing author for The Big Book of Social Media: Case Studies, Stories, Perspectives. She taught Social Media Marketing at Portland State University and provides training in the strategic use of social media technologies for businesses, executives, entertainers and organizations.

Bugbee has been featured and/or quoted in the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, The New York Times, AMCtv.comThe Oregonian, CNET, ‘Boards, ClickzThe Daily Beast and other publications. Bugbee received an International Shorty Award (dubbed the "Oscars of Twitter") in the advertising category. She won for tweeting (anonymously) and garnering thousands of ardent followers as Peggy Olson, a character from the AMC hit drama, "Mad Men."

Bugbee has spoken at numerous conferences about social media methodologies, including AllFacebook Expo, The 2nd Screen Summit, OnHollywoodOMMA Global, Toronto Social Media Week (keynote), NordicGame, The Social Media Masters at the Online Marketing Summit, The Cool Twitter Conference (keynote), South by Southwest Interactive [video], 140 Characters Conference [video], O’Reilly Twitter Bootcamp, SocialFresh, WebVisions, and many other events.

Bugbee manages campaigns and projects in social media marketing, PR 2.0, community management, advertising and special events (real or virtual). She has 22+ years experience in traditional public relations and advertising and now incorporates tools and tactics such as Twitter, Facebook, community building, influencer outreach, search marketing, blogging and YouTube to help businesses enhance visibility, build better customer relationships and boost sales.

Bugbee founded the Portland chapter of Social Media Club, served as president for two years and remains on the board. During that time, she co-founded and launched the annual SoMe Awards show to honor excellence in social media.

A consistent topic of conversation among marketers!
 
Google+ Beat:  PR flacks for FB love to diss G+.  Meanwhile G+ continues along as both Social Network  AND (see article) something much subtler.  We use video hangouts for our Agency... can't do that on FB.  And for every conference I attend, I do a circle for speakers... about 20% are highly active with weekly posts on G+.

I think the article has a good point. Google+ might be similar to a company sponsoring a public square where people can congregate, not to charge them admission or sell them goods directly, but to have a chance to observe trends, build goodwill and become an indispensible part of their lives. Ultimately, that might still lead to sales (indirectly), but short-term it is more of an investment in the future.
