If you have never visited Peters Shoemakers & Restorers, then take it from me, you need to! As well as an array of stunningly crafted shoes to choose from, you are welcomed into the store by an amazing team, full of life, personalities and stories!

I would even go the length to say that my visit became more of an experience. Pete’s energy is infectious and working alongside his now business partner Lilly, the pair seem to fit perfectly together and within minutes of being in their company, you can see why Peter’s has been around for as long as it has and continues to thrive.

Nottingham cobblers making children's shoes for the first time - and giving them away

ByJamie Barlow
7 OCT 2017

Peter's Shoemakers and Restorers, in Low Pavement Street, specialises in selling handmade, bespoke products for adults - as well as luxury designer brands.

Lilly Deeming, an apprentice at the store, made the first pair and said children's shoes take one month to make - while adults shoes take three months.

"I really enjoy making them, it's quite a lot of fun," she said.

"Loake and other shoemakers do not make children's shoes. These are handmade craft shoes of real quality.

"I think it will a nice story for after they have grown out of them. They can keep them as a souvenir. It's nice to say you have shoes that were handmade for you as a child."

She added: "A lot of the shoes on the high street are not real leather which do not allow children's feet to breathe.

"We have a lot of loyal customers and it's about giving back to them. The shop has been going for years now. Customers who bought their first pair of shoes here still come back now.

"It's a nice touch to give something back to them. We do hope it will attract new customers."

Stuart Turnbull, manager of the Fred Perry store, in Bridlesmith Gate, ordered a pair of shoes for his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Ruby.

An English shoemaker Peter Bullock: “I personally make sure that the young generation takes over the best shoemaking methods for the future”

Peter Bullock opened his first shoe repair store in Nottingham (UK) thirty-five years ago and called it after his own name - “Peter’s”. As the time went by, it grew to a shoemaking store. Today, it is quite an iconic store in the heart of Nottingham, offering the highest quality English hand-made bespoke shoes worn by such celebrities as the actress Viki McClure.

“It’s endless” – Peter says when I ask him about the client range – it goes from the show business stars to the football stars.

When I came into the store, I met Peter - a real English gentleman, who, in my opinion, makes other men at least look like gentlemen. The store itself is exceptionally precise, but at the same time – warm and cozy.

It’s very British - not too big and every single thing has its’ own duty and purpose. I must mention that it wasn’t the first time as I came into Peter’s store and every time I am there – I always see Petter in his smart dress style – smart trousers, good quality shirt and a nice tie.

About the shoes – I’m not even talking – they’re just the best of the best.

Peter’s Shoes - the life and sole of shoemaking in Chesterfield
PUBLISHED: May 2015 | Updated: October 2015

Derbyshire Life meets award-winning entrepreneur Peter Bullock and discovers how he is breathing new life into the traditional craft of shoemaking.

In spite of his time in the fashion industry coinciding with a dramatic decline in the manufacturing of shoes in Britain, combined with increased competition from overseas, Peter has managed to buck this trend by expanding his shoemaking retail empire as well as developing innovative and imaginative plans to nurture the next generation of England’s shoemakers and footwear designers.

Golden brogues made in Sheffield for Olympian

A SHEFFIELD businessman is offering an unusual homecoming gift to Yorkshire’s Olympic champions.

Peter Bullock, a shoemaker from Sheffield, has made pairs of bronze, silver, and gold lady’s shoes for the county’s athletes as they return home from the London 2012 Olympic Games.

He had already placed the bronze and silver brogues in his shop window in Sheffield city centre, when a regular customer suggested he make a gold pair to complete the set.

He and his team worked through the night to craft the shoes from gold coloured leather and Peter said he was hoping to be able to give them to Sheffield golden girl Jessica Ennis.

Peter Bullock is a master shoe designer, maker and restorer. A deep and playful passion for soul music and dancing is evident in the unique personality of Peters Design design.

He talked more about his inspiration when he stopped by the studio to talk to “The All That and More” ladies. His mantra is ‘footwear for fast feet to put a spring in your step’ inspired by his award-winning days on the dance floor. He will be happy to tell you more if you pop by his Nottingham shop on Low Pavement.
