Leap and others like it are doing many things public transportation agencies can, and should, learn from.
Leap is a luxury bus service that lets affluent San Franciscans commute between two of the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods while sipping fancy coffee.

Excellent write-up and valid concerns.

This year, I decided to volunteer for SXSW. I will only say that with all the sponsorships the organization has been able to attract (genuinely impressive), the unwieldy volunteer workforce of 1,000+ should be whittled-down to a more manageable level and more paid, properly trained professionals hired. It would appear from the back-end that lots of money is being made by SXSW ... but it is being staffed largely free-of-charge.

IDEA: Perhaps seek an "information desk" sponsorship from Apple or Google or Yahoo, and make those volunteer workstations as high tech as possible with more laptops and better signage for who-is-in-what-room (a common question). Opportunity as seen from the volunteer standpoint. Also, I'd suggest SXSW promote to attendees the Find Near Me (app), and that every volunteer have it on their mobile device: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-near-me-for-iphone-find/id353369769?mt=8.
With rampant corporate sponsorship, a rigid hierarchy and low pay, playing SXSW is a pothole-ridden road to stardom for artists; Brandon Roos goes to Austin and asks Bay Area bands what, if any, are the rewards.

As a consultant who advises nonprofits on development, I often engage in discussions with organizational leaders on reaching "new philanthropists," especially younger donors who made their piles in technology or finance. By repute, they are driven by data, results, measurable impact, and the use of business methods and technology to solve [...]

Tall order!

The world must create 600 million new jobs over the next decade.

On Monday, Member States, civil society, trade unions, the private sector, academia and more are starting a 3-day session at the United Nations Economic and Social Council to find a solution to the world’s unsustainable working conditions.

Yup. It's good he is learning though - I am a longtime LGBT equality advocate because I have friends, family and some truly life-changing mentors who are LGBT. People sometimes think I'm LGBT, too, but no. I do wish more straight people would speak out - I am heartened by leaders of other nations doing so.

The blog post I will never write:

Over the course of my fundraising career, occasionally someone I would have thought to be a "straight" philanthropist will think I am LGBT, and indicate they are not straight (my guess is they are bi-sexual). Of course, I'm always diplomatic about being straight. But this suggests there are quite a few people who have yet to reveal their own "personal truths."
