This is an example of playing with light and darkness. It makes for some interesting shots.

The first includes the introduction of an artificial light source underneath a glass panel to light the mask from below, whilst the second was taken of a statuette in a beam of light cast by the late afternoon sun.

Next up is an example of how Adobe Lightroom can be used to edit photographs so that they take on a new character or feel.

This is an example of 'freeze' photography. I had to play around with both my camera and lighting to get these shots. I eventually got these shots with additional artificial lighting due to the overcast day, with settings of f/3.2 4.45mm, 1/320 sec., and ISO 3200.

This time, the photographic composition is based on 'symmetry' and 'asymmetry'. Hopefully this one is obvious as to which photo represents which composition.

This is an example of the photographic design element, 'texture'. The first image is from a tower fan, the second from a cushion, and the third from a feather.

This is an example of framing the subject. It shows my original photograph of the area, and the two photos I liked the best after I 'worked the scene' by framing familiar objects in unusual ways. The aim was to show a new connection between the unrelated objects due to the way the photos were framed.

Spaces are now available for an Archaeological excavation of a Chinese Gold Rush Mining Village in Victoria Australia. Organised by the Uncovered Past Institute: Archaeology + History, a new not-for-profit organisation set to run archaeology programs based on public participation.

This is an example of 'working the scene'. It shows my original photograph of the scene, and the photo I liked the best after taking various different shots of the area.

This is for my photos, as I try to learn new and different techniques. These photos are all copyright © Caroline Murphy 2017-present. All photos were taken with a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX30V, unless otherwise specified.

Thesis abstract:

"This thesis examines the ceramics assemblage of the Bendigo Chinese brick kiln and market garden dumpsite (H7724-0600). It compares the resultant consumption and discard patterns with those of other mid-1800s to early 1900s Chinese sites in Victoria and New South Wales, to understand what these artefacts reveal about the access by the nearby historic Ironbark Chinese camp to international trade networks."
