The BBC's Clydebuilt documentary about Cutty Sark could not cover all my new evidence about the notorious 1st Mate, Sidney William Smith. I'm planning a series of blog posts to share what I've found and, hopefully, present him as a more rounded and human character than the "bucko mate" of legend.
BBC Scotland's documentary about the Cutty Sark was broadcast nationwide for the first time on 29 May. It is the first programme in the Clydebuilt series which looks at four iconic ships, built on the river Clyde, that helped forge links with countries throughout the world.

Thank you for this, Russ. Like you, I was unaware of this feature. I never used the blue stars so hadn't looked at source rating for years. The gold star system is very helpful. Just wish we could set it to be the default.

Caroline,

I don't have the time nor energy to deal with the many, many, many GEDCOM issues. If I want to share, I will, but am only concerned that the DATA gets to the other end. The formatting of the Citations just won't make it. If I use the Free Form citation, it will make it, but in FTM2014 I want ALL of my Sources in the Template Format.

I have seen folks talk about and wanting the ability to "sort sources", but don't understand that. The biggest reason for not understanding is the new way that EndNotes are presented in FTM2014. They are presented in a much cleaner way. So, I don't know what criteria would be used for Sorting.

Can you help me with that?

Thank you,

Russ

I'm not a Cameron supporter but he is the Prime Minister of our country and shouldn't be told to shut up by a journalist. It's perfectly possible to interrupt and close down the conversation politely.

+Mad Wullie Telling 'anybody else' you've invited on a television program to "shut up" would also be rude for a journalist. Doesn't matter that it was the PM.

I visited Glasgow this week for the preview screening of a new BBC documentary series, Clydebuilt: The Ships That Made The Commonwealth.

The first episode will be about the Cutty Sark and I spent several months last year doing research for the BBC into various members of her crew. I was then asked to take part in the programme to present some of my findings.

The programme will feature new information which I have uncovered about the Cutty Sark's notorious "hellship voyage" and will, I hope, lead to a more balanced view of one of the key people involved. I will be able to write more about this once the programme has aired, so watch this space!

Thanks for the link - it was really interesting. I like the graphic showing how the tea was stowed.
