Small decisions, big consequences: even non-fans can learn from Belichick.
I'm not exactly a football fan. I'm pretty sure the 2015 Super Bowl was the first complete game I've ever watched (as long as you don't count that quick trip to the grocery store for ice cream). And that wasn't actually by choice; I was supposed to be flying home, not “stuck” in Fort Lauderdale ...

It's time for all those summer rental SUP boards to go on sale, which may seem really tempting... but you don't want to end up with a lawn ornament, so read this first.
Buying a stand up paddle board, maybe on sale after the summer rental season? Here are three tips to make sure you get the right board for you.

Sometimes we are rewarded right away for our hard work, with both fun and results. Here's one example.
We hear it all the time: “work hard and you will be rewarded.” But how often can we really “see” those rewards? Too often they are either so vague or so far in the future, they don't seem real. Except for sailboat racing, where the rewards for hard work can often be instantaneous.

Sometimes we try to be too perfect, when all we really need is an orange-soled sneaker.
Last weekend I was invited/asked/arm-twisted to help run the West Ferry Laser Invitational, a casual event in our back yard. The organizers, Dan and Karen Neri, knew other Laser sailors would really like racing in the West Passage of Narragansett Bay. After all, what's not to like?

Looking back a decade to a memory that's fresher than today's breakfast.
The calendar says it's been 10 years since we won our Olympic Trials. I don't believe it.

10 years later, I can still taste this one. But now at least I can write about it.
Two races off the Athens front shatter a medal dream at the Olympics.

All the gory details of our deer adventure a few weeks ago, on a drive from RI to CA.
For those of you looking for a blow-by-blow report of last week's Snipe Western Hemisphere and Orient Championship, I suggest you read the report on SnipeToday. Because today's post has nothing to do with books and only a loose association with boats: it concerns one lone deer who (until a few ...

In 5 decades, my parents and I have sold a total of 6 boats. In the past 6 weeks, I've reconnected with three of them. Read on for more detail.
What better way to celebrate my fifth decade than finding three of my old boats?

Our Nautical Nomad Hannah Jenner interviews two of the top sailors from last weekend's Atlantic Cup.
Memorial Day weekend was a holiday for most here in the US, but not for the intrepid sailors of the Atlantic Cup fleet.
