CLEARING HARD DRIVE SPACE ON YOUR SMARTPHONE
You’re running around, living life, and the last thing you want to deal with is a phone that runs out of hard drive space. But it can be tough to figure out what to delete, and how to delete it, to restore a little breathing room to your phone’s busy hard drive. I’m in the same boat as you, and sometimes I go for months without clearing hard drive space on my iPhone, only to pay for it later when I want to download, say, some movies for a plane ride, and they won’t fit.

COFFEE, TEA OR MILK?
What’s in our cups and mugs keeps evolving: We’ve gone through drip phases, French press eras, and these days, single-serve pod machines like Keurig and Nespresso loom large on many a kitchen counter. Some of us are fine with whatever’s hot and available (insert joke here), and some are obsessed with the perfect brew or steep. If you’re part of that second set, check out the latest technology takes on our morning habit of coffee, tea or (alternative) milk (and the raddest vessel to put them in).

KONMARI YOUR TECHNOLOGY
Marie Kondo’s best-selling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up has sparked a nationwide phenomenon of possession purging and a cult of evangelists who swear by her tidying techniques. And while it might be tempting to toss any technology that doesn’t “spark joy” in the wastebin as you declutter, it actually requires a bit more care to cast off your gadgets. Unlike old shoes or your grandmother’s vase, technology might be valuable, it might be environmentally unsound to throw away, or it might contain your personal data. For those reasons, you’ll need a bit more help saying goodbye. Here are some tips for those who want to apply the KonMari method to their technology clutter.

HOW TO WATCH TV NOW
Over on Apartment Therapy, I’ve written an article inspired by countless conversations I’ve had about… watching television. Because it’s become confusing. People are fed up paying the cable company for channels they don’t watch. They’re watching more on devices and want easier options for doing that. But what to do about it— what equipment they need, and how to set things up— it’s a blank stare every time.

TECH YOUR TAXES, PART ONE: HOW TO STORE TAX RECEIPTS
With the books closed on 2015, it’s natural to start thinking about taxes. It’s also natural to avoid dealing with them until the last second, and then have a mountain of receipts to contend with. We’re starting our tax series well ahead of April 15th, and dealing with storing tax receipts first, because if you don’t have a plan it can be a nightmare.

FOR VALENTINE’S DAY…
I was sick in bed all last week, with nothing to do but troll the web and build my Valentine’s Day wish list. Dangerous. There’s some fun technology picks below, with an eye toward feeling pretty and getting my butt into shape for spring break (Indoor spin bike with built-in streaming classes, it’s a long shot, but I’m dropping hints).

THE END OF SCREEN TIME WARS?
Parenting in the digital age involves a whole new layer of supervision, education and good ol’-fashioned snooping. Kids left unsupervised on devices can get into all kinds of trouble to be sure, but they also need help building their balance muscle— how to manage screen time so they can grown up to be healthy, happy adults (I write this as I clutch my mobile phone, laptop in my lap, iPad at arms reach— hey, don’t do as I do, kids).

LOVING: PASSENGER’S SCARE AWAY THE DARK
Well, I’m a little late to the party, but I just discovered Passenger’s song Scare Away the Dark, and it’s such a gem I thought I’d share it with you. It’s a reminder that sometimes, even if life puts you in a drab office staring at a terminal for hours, that we still have a choice to look up, get back in touch with nature (and each other), and maybe sing.

STAND MIXER SMACKDOWN! KITCHENAID VS. THE COMPETITION
Whether I’m in the mood for chocolate chip cookies, brownies or a birthday cake, I never make a move without my stand mixer. The KitchenAid is the gold standard among many home chefs, and every baker seems to want one (I bought mine in my 20s when I worshiped at the altar of Martha Stewart). But at about $300 (more for special editions), they are pricey for the infrequent baker. Major brands including Hamilton Beach, Breville, Bosch, Cuisinart and Sunbeam offer similar-looking competitors. How do they stack up? We took a look — get ready for a stand mixer smackdown!

LOVING: CLEVERPET, A SMART TOY FOR DOGS
When I’m running from event to event at the Consumer Electronics Show, it’s tough to ellicit an emotional response from me. I’m concerned with the clock, and making sure I see as much as I can before the day is over.  But this product caught my eye and captured my heart from the moment I saw it.

I HEART CES
There is an excitement around the Consumer Electronics Show that you can feel the minute you arrive in Las Vegas. That the streets, taxi lines and hallways are oppressively crowded does nothing to detract from the palpable enthusiasm. As you roam the (endless) halls, taking in all the new inventions from companies large and small, you truly feel like you’re a witness to the future.
