Beach tech you should throw in your tote
A good beach day should be pretty analog. You want to be connected to the warmth of the sun, the feel of sand between your toes, and the sound of crashing waves—not a steady WiFi signal. But that doesn’t mean throwing a few high-tech accoutrements in your tote with your beach towel isn’t a good idea. These gadgets and apps will give your beach day a tech upgrade, and yes, they work just as well for swan float days in the pool, if that’s more your style.

My favorite Etsy Tech Accesories
Two things always surprise me about Etsy: The quality, the craftsmanship, and the site’s ability to keep me there for way too long. (Okay, that was three things.) Seriously, I could spend many many hours clicking here and there… which is what I did this week on a cross-country flight while I was avoiding some writing assignments. I thought I’d share some of the coolest Etsy tech accessories I uncovered on this website— cool mousepads, USB thumb drives, cord wranglers and fun posters and pennants for your office.

These 7 apps will change how you shop online (in a really good way)
Shopping online is supposed to be easier and faster than store-hopping IRL. Instead, I often feel like I’ve fallen into a not-at-all organized black hole of never-ending scrolling and clicking.

I’m in some magazines…
Being in a magazines is kind of like having a baby. You wait and wait and wait and then one day you walk by a newsstand and BAM, there’s the issue you contributed to all those months ago. Okay, so it’s not like having a baby at all. But it sure is fun to see your name in print, and I’m especially honored this summer to be in a stack of publications I love so much, and read all the time.

Do You Sous Vide?
You might not think your smartphone is down for cooking you a steak, but this smart kitchen gadget begs to differ. Behold the Sous Vide immersion circulator— the next kitchen must have.

You asked: The Travel Apps I use When I fly Anywhere
If you’re like me, you’re doing a whole lot of traveling this summer—some of it for fun, some of it for work, and some of it with the whole family in tow (better pack the corkscrew). I’m hitting three countries to boot: Taking the kids up to Canada for a summer at camp, then down to Mexico with my husband for a much-needed just-us vacay, with some US jaunts to both coasts sprinkled in. If you’re traveling by airplane to somewhere fun this summer, there are apps that I consider absolutely essential. People are always asking me, “What are you favorite apps for…” and with al the flying I do, I have a well-curated list that I love to share. Here’s my must-have arsenal of must-download travel apps, for before, during and after the trip. Bon voyage!

How to deal with the news right now
I’ve been trying to write this blog post for a while, and each time I pause to reflect on the horrors of the recent news, another wave crashes and I need more time to come up for air. I don’t remember a time in my life where the world felt so frightening, and where I felt so helpless.

The Most Important Gadget In Your Home Is Getting A Makeover
Your home WiFi router has a thankless job— if all things are going well, you forget it exists, and if things go badly (read: your signal isn’t strong enough to watch the rest of the O.J.: Made In America series), you want to throw it against a wall. Even if you resist the urge to smash it, there’s little you can do except unplug it, count to ten, plug it back in and say a silent prayer to the bandwidth gods.

Admired: Rebecca Minkoff
“The Downtown Romantic,” reads her Twitter profile, and it’s the perfect way to describe the aesthetic of designer Rebecca Minkoff. Her playful, yet slightly edgy designs are some of my favorite go-to handbags, accessories and clothing. Minkoff fell in love with costume design in high school, and shortly after, moved to New York City to pursue a dream of becoming a fashion designer.

Freedom
I’m thinking about freedom on Independence Day: Freedom from the responsibilities of parenthood, and freedom from technology. It’s complicated.

Tech on Trend: Rattan
Summer’s got me like YESSS! right now and though we are firmly in Los Angeles’ “June gloom” season, I have my eye on our trip to Canada, and a blissful week of QUIET up at the cottage before the kids head off to summer camp. Until then, I’ll be running around like a mad woman trying to tie up all loose ends, work and personal, before we head off, since this departure will kick off 8 weeks of travel for the kids, and 3 weeks of travel for me. I’ll be heading straight to Mexico for a much-needed trip with my husband, and then immediately heading out meet with the fine folks at QVC to plan some upcoming fun stuff!

7 things I’m loving now (or waiting for)
Sometimes, I feel like I’ve covered everything interesting in the tech space, and nothing new and inspiring is hitting my radar. This isn’t one of those times. My Inbox has been flooded lately with cool new tech products that I haven’t been able to keep up with, so I thought I’d share a bunch of them today: Some I’ve tested, some I’ve Kickstarted, and some I’m waiting anxiously for. Let me know which appeal to you in the comments.
