The American Heart Association’s (AHA) annual “You’re the Cure Advocacy Day” was held on Wednesday at the Ohio Statehouse.  Dr. Ahmed Sabe and Tom Turner were part of the effort and participated in appointments with area legislators, urging their support on policies that impact heart disease and stroke.  A major focus for the effort was to encourage the support and passage of HB 113, which will require CPR training as part of high school graduation requirements. The AHA Stark team met with Representatives Christina Hagen, Kirk Schuring, Stephen Slesnick, Al Landis and State Senator Scott Oelslager.

This advocacy effort also allowed Dr. Sabe the opportunity to discuss the many significant heart care achievements of Mercy Heart Center and Emergency Chest Pain Center, including our record five minute door-to-balloon angioplasty times in our Emergency Department Cath Lab.  Dr. Sabe is very passionate in his beliefs that expanded CPR training will result in the reduction of brain death as a result of heart attack.

"In 2014, our volunteers provided 66,932 hours of service. This number represents many loving hours of service to our patients, visitors and hospital staff.

"Our volunteers bring peace and hope to patients that often struggle to find a ray of sunshine in the midst of their pain and suffering. My heart is filled with joy when volunteers share that a patient was able to smile after he or she provided services.  Volunteers listen, they care, they share, they transport patients, they direct visitors and families, they serve Communion, they assist in the gift shop, they perform clerical tasks all with a smile.

"For your dedicated service and your ability to bring smiles to hurting people, we honor and celebrate you this week." ~ Stephanie Williams, Mercy Volunteer Services Manager   #volunteering   #NationalVolunteerWeek   #cantonohio   #starkcounty
