Walmart had some super adorable apparel fabrics on clearance for $1 and $3/yard. I scooped up 4 of them... and then stood and waited and waited and waited for someone to come by that could help me. I was walked past by two employees - one of whom I'm certain was a manager - and no one stopped to ask if I needed help or offer to get someone.

So I walked out empty handed. Which is probably for the best. The fabric, while really cute and perfect for more shirts, basically said "fabric of undetermined content" so who knows what it actually was. And I really should just say no to spending all that time making something to wear only for it to be a poor quality fabric that won't wear well for very long.

Awesome!

Liberated from a private share. I love this guy. He's not 104 though..... Fucking sharp dresser, love it!
Fashion is something that changes with time, but certain fashions are timeless. Take this elderly gentleman, Günther Krabbenhöft, who was recently photographed in Berlin near the Kotbusser Tor station. While some other sources incorrectly reported this man’s age as 104, the grandpa himself says on his FB profile that the Internet has doubled his age. Various other sources say he's between 68-70 years old; the fact is, modern day hipsters could ta...

Just messaged an artist about possibly having a commissioned painting done. I've been trying to decide on artwork for my craft room and nothing seems to spark any excitement until it came to me: I need my grandma there. I have photos, I have her sewing machine, and I have a dress she made and used to go dancing in. I need a painting of her in that dress or something.

I'm not sure this person even does commissions, but it's worth a shot, right? Worst she can say is no, and then I'll have to find another artist who has a style I adore and think can do this idea justice. Which... could take a while. But I guess we'll see and then go from there if I need to.

"Handmade is a celebration of our contemporary lives , a living culture and not part of a mass imposed, one size fits all, consumer culture where everything looks the same and is easily boxed up. Each handmade item is about people and not machines. It is about the time and effort that goes into each piece of work, it is about the skill of each maker, the technical ingenuity of the maker, the magic of an individual’s imagination, and it is a treasure on a beach of throwaway machine made tat!"

And on that note, I'm going to start compiling my list this week of holiday gift things I can buy for people that are handmade. Preferably things they actually need, though let's face it: the vast majority of us need nothing and holiday gifts - especially when it's more than a single item - are all too much.

+Candice D I totally understand! I've gone so far as to stop knitting for family who don't even say thank you. I'll still knit for my step-sisters, but not their parents. I've knit the last item I will ever make for my grandma, because none of them take the two seconds required to even text me a thank you. While my husband appreciates the work that goes into what I do, he doesn't wear it, so I don't knit for him anymore either.

The Knit-Worthy list grows ever smaller.

I hate how busy they are, how people don't use a line system and jump in front of you, and how shitty the food always ends up being. That's just the start of it.

Blueberry sausage and carrot souffle(ish) cooking for breakfasts this week. And then crafting will be done because I spent my Sunday night working and today was tiring and I need to work on something crafty.

So this was in my sewing section on my Feedly.

I.... don't understand this style. WTF is the point of a "drop crotch"??? It sounds like you have some weird medical condition, and it looks like you have your pants on backwards.

I'm fairly sure a bacon/egg/cheese bagel is supposed to come with egg on it.

Bacon and cheese alone on a bagel is not as delicious as one might think. Though, to be fair, McDonald's bacon sucks.

Consider the sock. Some overlook this mundane undergarment, but don’t let its unassuming nature fool you — the history of hosiery is anything but humble. The human desire to comfortably clothe its feet has been intertwined with issues like technology, revolution, labor, economics, love and rejection. Taking the long view of socks, from classical times to the present, it seems that these little articles might be trying to tell us something. If so,...

I got my feet on the ground and I don't go to sleep to dream
Introduction
I'm a web designer/business owner growing to hate technology, knitter, gamer, sci-fi nerd, tree hugger, and a bit shy with a side of opinionated. I garden and like to can and pretend I'm being self-sufficient, but the truth is I suck at it. A lot. Like, I'd probably starve and die if I had to actually do any of this to really survive.

I play with photography on a Canon PowerShot A560 and the husband's Canon 20D.

Mom to an awesome little creature whose middle name is, in fact, Danger.

I ride a beat-up 1996 Rebel 250. She had some dings in her when I got to her, and I've put a few more in, but we've had a good time together. I've upgraded to a beautiful blue/cream Triumph America (which I call my TARDIS - you'll get it if you're a Doctor Who fan) but it's still early in our relationship and I'm still learning how to handle her. She won't take me through space and time, but we'll hopefully cover a lot of miles together :)

If I had a million dollars I'd buy a farm and live off the land.
