Like many outdoor enthusiasts, the hills in Knoydart have been very high on my wish list for a long time. A vast area of wild land cut off from the rest of mainland Scotland by high mountains or the sea, one of the last areas which claim to the last of the remaining wilderness in Scotland. Exploring this rugged land requires either a very long walk in or a boat trip, neither of which suits my usually very narrow window of opportunity. There are some hills which sit just outside Knoydart proper, but which are firmly within wild territory. Sgurr na Ciche, at the far end of Glen Dessary is one of those, and was where I intended to pitch my tent some time ago.... (Click link to read more)

A mini-trip report on a recent trip over the Five Sisters of Kintail ridge. It's more of a teaser than anything and much shorter than my usual blog posts, as some of the photos from this trip will be featured in  my upcoming Kozu book and I don't want to reveal them just yet. #photography #scotland

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Kozu Books will be publishing a book with my work as part of their landscape Editions series with the title “The Scottish Highlands”. I was honoured to be contacted by Greg, as along with this one, two other books in this series are announced, both by photographers I admire very much (Finn Hopson and Chris Swan).
The Landscape Editions series is a great concept, as the books are small (meaning portable), very affordable, but print quality is truly fantastic. I have a couple of books from this series already, and I keep going back to them.
As expected, most of the photographs will feature hills and mountains, one way or another. While many photos will be known to those who follow my work closely, the book will also feature some new work that I have deliberately held back, so the book should have something to offer for everyone.

It is well known that photographers do love some gear chat. In fact I get far more questions about my (backpacking) gear than about anything else photography-related. Hence, I have decided to spend some time writing what gear I take with me when backpacking in the mountains of the Scottish Highlands. I know that gear lists can be very boring, but it might make a nice change from the endless string of trip reports I have been writing here on the blog. There’s even the possibility that it might be of some use to people, and that it might help encourage other photographers to give wild camping a whirl (where permitted of course).

I have now updated my #backpacking gear list with the kit I bring with me in winter.  I hope you like it!
