Online Games  -

Looks like I'm starting up a Savage Rifts game on Mondays (not this Monday) around 8ish pm Eastern. I have room for one or two more players. I'll be using Google Hangouts and Roll20. Any interest?

Well, session zero is set for tonight around 730PM, +Visionary Comms, if you're interested. Somehow, your message got buried in my notifications.

I am looking at running a game via Roll20 with Google Hangouts for audio on Mondays at 8pm-ish Eastern. Not this coming Monday, of course. I have two players and would like to get two or three more.

I just started a community, no work put into it yet, but invited the gamers I know said they would make it, so keep an eye out for that invite.

Rules & Advice  -

Digging Savage Rifts. I loved the original at 14 or 15 and I love the new one now. Childhood memories and all. I am thinking, though, if I want to espouse the Rifts feel, I probably have to include the Skill Specialization rule. It fits. And, hell, there are already so many modifiers, is one more really going to be that much of a headache?

I've tried skill specialization a couple times, and neverliked it. As a GM, I would outright ignore it, and as a player found it fiddly and annoying. But if it is right for your group, go for it.

In other news, been a long time since I blogged--have a lot of things to set up.

The short version: I love it. I hope you do too. For new SW players, starting out with Savage Worlds core is probably a good idea before moving into Savage Rifts. I could see some ruffled feathers trying to go the other way around.

Great review! Like the fact that it's honest. I've not been a SW convert for long, but grew interested in it when I saw they were doing a SW version of Rifts. Since that time I've played many SW games via Fantasy Grounds, and have always had a ball with it. I'm expecting Savage Rifts to be gonzo, over the top like it's Palladium counterpart. For me, the setting was always the draw..the rules I dealt with until I just couldn't deal with them anymore. With Savage Rifts, I have a way to continue my love of Rifts storytelling with new people!

I am not familiar with that case, but the concept in and of itself certainly seems plausible. Part of any battle--even a legal one--is to damage your opponent as much as possible.

The staff was great when we went there last night--kind of surprising for a young crew this day and age. Wife loved her banana split, but I made the mistake of getting some brownie batter donuts. Those are yummy. But, not the ones I got last night. They were half hard--actually crunched when you bit into the one side and the filling was barely more than a drop, much less than I've had in these doughnuts before. It was as if they were made not earlier that day, not that morning, but at least the day before. Very disappointed.

Wow. First, employees handling money with gloves and then food with the same gloves. Then ignored at the speaker on foot in the drive thru out on a walk on a nice night. Then essentially yelled at by a belligerent and ignorant employee who either makes things up as she goes or received horrible training from her franchisor regarding the legality of serving patrons on foot through the drive thru. It okay, though, that open sore on the lady's face was probably a sign I wouldn't want what she was serving anyhow.

I'm not sure what other reviewers ran into here, but I had the exact opposite experience. I had a tire that went flat and needed replaced. I knew the last set had never been balanced properly by a local tire shop and it turned out that all four of my tires did indeed need replaced--not just what they told me--what I figured out by looking at the wear. I was staying at the local children's hospital with my son for a treatment when the issue came about, I called ahead and made sure my tired were in stock and spoke with someone who assured me they were. I drove up and the same person walked out and greeted me in the parking lot. They gave me a discount seeing my need and went to work putting the tires on immediately, so I could get back where I needed to be. While I was there, I saw everyone greeted in the parking lot--it wasn't just special treatment for calling ahead. Everyone was super friendly. I did run into one problem, but didn't notice until I prepared to go home the next day. They had mistakenly replaced my full size spare and left the flat in my trunk. I called up, spoke with them and they asked me to come back. I did. I spoke to someone different, explained the issue again, and they went right to work trying to see if they could locate my tire. Unfortunately, the tires from the day before had already been picked up and/or they couldn't find mine. I wasn't sure which. I was prepared for this. I was prepared for a fight, because that's what I'd expect at any other company this day and age--something along the lines of "well, you should've checked before you left." Instead, the team there surprised me. They came up, and before telling me they couldn't find the tire, the told me they were just going to go ahead and replace the tire free of charge with a brand new one that matched the other four I just put on. The apologized for their mistake--don't know when the last time I've seen a company do that. Then, they took responsibility and did what it took to make things right?!? If I had to complain about anything, it would be the near heart attack they caused me with the shock. Definitely worth every penny and then some. I would recommend them to anyone and I will certainly be back. Too bad they can't do all the work on my car. A special thanks go out to Marty and Eric at the store who handled me with the utmost professionalism and kindness both times. Hey, things happen. Anyone can make a mistake. But, to step up and make things right--that's what we need more of.
