Can't believe it's taken this long for something like this to pop up. This is gonna be a great move forward for the web.
Today EFF is pleased to announce Let’s Encrypt, a new certificate authority (CA) initiative that we have put together with Mozilla, Cisco, Akamai, IdenTrust, and researchers at the University of Michigan that aims to clear the remaining roadblocks to transition the Web from HTTP to HTTPS.

There’s an old way of making websites, a hangover from the graphic design industry, and it goes something like this. You, the client, want a website, so you hire a web design agency and they produce some static designs for you to look at. Essentially these are pictures of what your website will hopefully look …

This is a good move on HP's end

HP drags Windows 7 back from grave for new PCs ... Dvice -- "The folks at HP have had just about enough of the beleaguered OS that is Windows 8. Complaints from users have finally reached a tipping point for the PC maker, making the company do something fairly drastic. Over the weekend, HP threw off the shackles of Windows 8 and planted its feet squarely alongside Windows 7.

Head over to HP's website and you'll see a banner declaring Windows 7 to be "back by popular demand" and offering you a savings of up to $150 if you choose Windows 7 as your OS when building a new desktop or laptop. As of the writing of this article, the vast majority of desktop PCs currently on offer from HP come with Windows 7 standard, with laptops split down the middle. If the laptop doesn't feature a touchscreen, chances are HP has slated it as a Windows 7 machine.

HP is so over Windows 8 that, if you navigate to the company's All-in-One PC page, the first computer you'll see is one running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. So it's not so much that Windows 7 is the end-all of PC operating systems, it's just that HP has decided not to bother defending Windows 8 any longer. With Windows 9 reportedly in the works and Windows 8.1 failing to boost Windows 8 PC sales, we can hardly blame them. You can still pick up a Windows 8 machine from HP, by the way. You'll just have to skulk around their site a bit more to find one you like, and pay a bit more for it when you do. ..."

Started a blog to share some of the more technical details of how John VanOrange works. Today there is a post on how the site generates the unique IDs each image has
On John VanOrange, all images have a simple six character name that uniquely identifies the image. In the early days, this was not the case and there were two other methods for uniquely identifying the images. History. At first, the images all had incremental numeric IDs.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. With self driving cars on the horizon, I've been both excited and concerned. I'm really looking forward to a future of safer cars, but I am a bit troubled with the idea that we are now trusting our lives to decisions computers make.
When is it ethical to hand our decisions over to machines? And when is external automation a step too far?

Something to consider when purchasing your next drive
And that doesn't even tell the whole story. In Backblaze's storage pods, Seagate's Barracuda 1.5TB has an annual failure rate of over 25%. The 5400-RPM version of that drive fares better—its failure rate is only 10%—but that's still pretty high compared to the competition.

Recently implemented support for additional languages on John VanOrange.  Shared details on how that was completed.
John VanOrange doesn't currently have a large international audience, but at the same time, there has slowly been an increase in traffic from non-English speaking users. Since the site is primarily based on images, the language probably isn't a huge factor on the usability.
