A behind the scenes look at the Cameraland - Olympus studio lighting workshop held Saturday 6 February 2016. A vintage-inspired affair, attendees learnt the basics from Olympus ambassador, Sandro Tasso, before each being given the opportunity to shoot using one of the brand’s latest mirrorless cameras.

On first glance, Cameraland is "just another" photo equipment store or a place to take passport photos. But since the renovation the store has become an event & workshop space too - mostly for photography related events, but I've recently learned they host regularly Food & Wine pairing events too! It is Cape Town after all, and the best way to attract the trendy Cape Townians is through their stomach - with gourmet cuisine & bubbly ;) Pop in for the infrequent exhibitions and check out the new space.

My family got four sets of passports photos done at Cameraland on Long street and I am really unhappy about the quality. The photos had an unnatural colour balance, the photographer seemed disinterested and unable to take a nice photo of any of us. He didn't know specific passport rules (although implied he did) and as a result our photos were so horrific we had to get them retaken at Orms. It cost a little more, but the quality is infinitely better and they give you double the number of photos (8). Cameraland had a nice cafe and free water, but unless you're thirsty or desperate for ID or passport photos just don't go there.

Hi Dagmar, I was really disheartened to hear about your experience with regard to your passport photographs at Cameraland. Our intention is to remain up to date with information regarding the various passport photographs that we are requested to shoot for clients and quality is of primary concern. Please be assured that I have investigated the incident with the staff members concerned and action has been taken to ensure that we do not have the problem that you have encountered again. Should you wish to visit Cameraland CT in the future, please ask for me so I can personally make amends for this unfortunate incident. Kind Regards Brian Lustig Store manager

Quite historic in that it has been here for many years. It is still my favorite photographic place as I receive very good service here. Friendly and staff with plenty of experience in the field. So many cameras, video recorders, lenses, bags and more. Love the idea that you can try out a lens upstairs. Just bring your camera and try out the different lenses that they have out. Need photos done for licencing, 1st floor does it quickly. This photographic center is now even better after it went through a building upgrade.

Great selection. Prices are high, but I think that's typical of South Africa.
