What is suicide but just a theatrical way of telling those around you that you’d rather not see them anymore? Well, it’s a lot of things more than that. It’s sad. It’s painful. It’s emotional. It’s final. But is it also, as Gordon and Caleb ask, a reason to end a relationship?

+Caleb J. Ross Of course I will. I had a slow start into it, but now that I read more than a page at a time I really like it.

It's been a while since I uploaded a book review. That's probably a good thing.

I'm a huge Tom Waits fan. I have all his albums (yes, all of them). I've seen him live. I have posters and t-shirts. I've equated Tom Waits to a religious figure at times. So again, I'm a huge fan. But, I'm also willing to admit that his live performances (specifically his vocal performance) doesn't always work. He definitely "forces" his voice when performing live. It can be off-putting. For anyone new to Waits who was turned off by this performance, I suggest checking out some of his studio recordings. When he isn't over-emphasizing the guttural growl his melodies, lyrics, and all around persona tend to come through much better.

But seeing the man gives another dimension of power altogether. Only saw him the once, but was blown away by his mere presence.

In between sips of Coke you should listen to the new episode of Important Question. "Would you sell out?"

One of my very favorite books. I had that same sense of being disturbed. There's a lot of lore around this book, too. For example, Zampano is Jorge Luis Borges (blind Argentina man, labyrinths). Also, Danielewski's sister is the musician P.O.E. She made an album called Haunted which is like a companion to the book. Their father was a documentary filmmaker, which make the Navidson angle more interesting.

Have you read any of his other books? They aren't as good, but I am looking forward to his forthcoming The Familiar.

They are definitely not normal novels, but they aren't as trippy as HoL. In my opinion HoL is easily his best.

Episode 10 is live. But you may not be if Gordon gets his way and becomes a dictator.

Wow, we are almost the same person! Comedy is a huge part of my life. I don't perform, but I love it. I love analyzing it. I love the idea that any concept can be filtered through a comedy lens. And podcasts! Yes! I'm obsessed. I'm sure you know of the Dead Authors Podcast (living near LA, loving comedy, loving reading, and loving podcasts). If not, subscribe now! And beer! I'm with you in that I love drinking it, but I don't care so much about learning about it. My beer of choice is any imperial stout (I'm not a big hops guy). I tried starting a beer review channel (ToBeDrunkList) but couldn't see it through. And writing! I've authored a few books, but recently I've had a turn as well, in that I don't write fiction any longer (even though I have a book through Dzanc coming out next year). One day, after nearly a decade of writing non-stop, I just stopped having the desire. I don't understand it. I wish I lived out in LA, too. We would be best friends, I can tell. /creepycomment

Lastly, shameless plug, but I think you would like this. I co-host a funny podcast called Important Question? Podcast. Every episode we discuss an ethically weighted hypothetical question. It's short (15-20 mins) and way fun.
