I finally dined at Candle 79 in New York City, and it surpassed every expectation. Read all about it in today's post. #newyorkcity   #candle79   #vegantravel
Candle 79 is just blocks away from Central Park, and it’s a restaurant I’ve wanted to visit for years. It makes every “best of” list when it comes to vegan restaurants across the globe.

{new post} For terrific vegan options in Des Moines and all-around delicious food, don't miss Krunkwich Ramen House in the East Village. Catch the full review today on the blog! #ramen   #iowa   #desmoines
Today I’m revisiting one of my favorite restaurants in the state of Iowa – Krunkwich Ramen House in Des Moines’ East Village. Krunkwich is a casual, order-at-the-counter eatery, where you take a number and have food brought to your table.

I'm loving this cookbook from the folks at +Herbivore Clothing Co. called Eat Like You Give a Damn. Check out my full review and a recipe for a top notch kale salad. #cookbook   #vegancookbook
This massaged kale salad includes a tahini dressing that’s made right in the same salad bowl. The great thing about kale salads is that they last a long time fully dressed, unlike lighter greens that become wet and wilty.

I finally got to try Pig Minds Brewing in Illinois.  It's an all-vegan brewery, featuring classic bar food and beer, of course.   #brewery
For the longest time I have wanted to check out Pig Minds Brewing, an all-vegan brewery in Rockford, Illinois. So we made a detour on our way to Chicago.

Looking for new ways to liven up your kale side dish?  Check out this ginger-sesame kale from Bowls by +Becky Striepe. #sidedish
I made this Ginger-Sesame Kale recipe from Bowls, and it reminded me of one of my favorite kale salads at my local Co-op. It’s seasoned with plenty of garlic and ginger for an Asian-style kale side dish.

Summer food highlights with buffalo cauliflower, squash blossoms, Ethiopian wots, pie, and more!   #summerfood   #vegan
June passed in a flash, and somehow we’re halfway through July. I thought it would be a good time for a little summer food highlight reel.

For a summery dip that's the perfect blend of sweet and savory, I adore this peach & black bean salsa. #salsa
Growing up there was always a jar of salsa in the refrigerator. I’d come home from school, pour salsa into a bowl, grab a bag of tortilla chips, and watch Dennis the Menace cartoons while sitting on the floor in our basement. I didn’t particularly enjoy Dennis the Menace cartoons, but that was a time …

I have been obsessed with this smoothie that is packed with cherry flavor. If you're a cherry fan too, you're sure to love it! #cherry #Smoothie
The smoothie I’ve been obsessed with lately is this Very Cherry Smoothie. It packs a wallop of cherry flavor from ½ cup of dark cherries and a dash of almond extract.

There are a million and one ways to make pesto, but this is my favorite.  Plus, I share the secret ingredient that I never leave out! #pesto
Summer is the season of pesto. It’s when basil explodes in gardens with its fragrant leaves, aching to be picked.

What do you mean "flyover state?"  Not anymore.  Modern Love in Nebraska is reason enough to visit.   #modernloveomaha   #veganomaha
The main reason we made a loop on our road trip instead of a simple back and forth was for one reason – Modern Love. It was a little out of our way to go through Omaha to get back to Iowa, but any added minutes were more than worth it for 3 courses in one of the country’s best vegan restaurants.

Glimpses from a fun weekend that flew by far too fast - Vida Vegan Con 2015.  #vidavegancon   #vvc2015
Vida Vegan Con is a vegan bloggers conference, during which vegans from all over the globe descend on a city. (The first two were held in Portland and the most recent one was in Austin.) The conference is a place to reconnect with old friends, put a real life face to an online persona, and meet new people.
