Pros and Cons of Radiant Floor Heating

Are you considering radiant floor heating for your home? While radiant floor heating can provide high efficiency and comfort, it may not be the best option for everyone. Here are some pros and cons of radiant floor heating to help you decide:

Pros
radiant floor heatingDepending on what type of radiant floor heating you install, it can be highly efficient. The most efficient and most popular option is hydronic radiant flooring. This system uses a liquid, most often water, heated by a boiler that runs through tubing beneath our floor surface. Not only will such a system improve heating efficiency, but it can make a great selling point if you put your house on the market.

While many factors will determine your energy savings, this method of heating eliminates heat loss by ductwork and drafty, uneven heating. For people with respiratory problems or allergies, radiant floor heating can help reduce symptoms due to dry, unclean indoor air.

Cons
The biggest problems with radiant floors are determined by your home. If you are building a new home, radiant floors are easier to install; however, if you currently have a furnace, retrofitting your home would be a more costly and extensive job. If you have an especially large home or want carpet in every room, radiant floors may be too expensive or decrease in their efficiency, respectively. The best way to determine if your home would benefit from radiant floor heating is to consult a skilled heating and cooling professional.

Another downside to radiant floor heating is that few HVAC technicians have the right skills and tools to install such a system. However, if you’re looking for radiant floor heating in Ashland, KY or Huntington, WV, you’re in luck! The technicians at CADCO Heating and Cooling, Inc. have more than 20 years of experience in the business and specialize in radiant floor and radiant panel installation.
