Debating News - By Debating Captain Bobby Melhem

Coming off of such a successful season last year, the College Secondary debating teams had much to prove and uphold. Whether each team was looking to defend their title or hungry to make their mark in the competition it is evident that this coming season would test the abilities of even the best teams. So far the debating teams have seen overwhelming success this season with 9 of the 12 teams reaching the finals stage of the competition. From this, we hope to see the teams continue to display their debating prowess in and against the competition and ultimately bring home winning results. The Finals round of the competition will be taking place next Wednesday and Grand Final the following week at Bond University. We wish the remaining 3 teams competing the best of luck. I have no doubts that they will continue to perform for the College. These willing and intelligent students are more than capable of taking on even the best of schools.
Congratulations to the following teams that made it through to the round of sixteen finals last week:
Junior A - CAC 1
Intermediate B - CAC1
Intermediate A - CAC CAC2 and CAC 3
Senior B - CAC 1 and CAC 2

Learning about IT Networks in Year 5
Our modern world is full of digital devices, computers, robots, automatic systems and a huge range of new wonderful gadgets. Our Year Five students have been learning about how this technology works and how networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) actually functions.
This learning relates to previous work that students have been doing in programming and drone activity lessons.
Leading this learning has been Mr Joel Davis. For one session, Mr Davis invited our very own IT Service Department Manager, Mr Darryl Hall, to work with the students in learning about networks and how devices communicate with each other. The students enjoyed meeting with and learning from one of our very own IT experts.
The students were thoroughly engaged and had to demonstrate their understanding by creating their own network and system diagrams following Mr Hallโ€™s presentation.
The students produced a full table-top diagram that displayed a complete networked system with multiple devices and IP addresses connected!
A big thanks to Mr Hall for taking time out of his day to present these sessions to the students, as it was very valuable for them to hear from an expert in the industry.

VICKI WILSON SHIELD - By Anna Young

Outstanding results out of the Vicki Wilson Shield competition today for the College.

Both of our College Shield teams have qualified for the regional finals day in August. The Green and Blue teams both went through their respective pools undefeated today.

The other pool winners were Helensvale SHS and Canterbury College. All four teams will play off against each other to gain their place in the Queensland finals series.

Well done to all the girls! This is the first time the College has had two teams make it through to this stage of the competition.

A big thank you to Sandra Walsh and Shenae Grant for coaching the teams. Thank you to Kelly Brauer for scoring for the Blue team. Also, thank you to Alex Holder and Lisa McGrath for being the team umpires.
