great, now i can't even turn a page w/o paying Apple a nickel.

I thought Jonny Ive hated the real-life metaphors like woven-fabric backgrounds, wooden bookcases, etc.

I'm surprised they haven't patented turning the power on yet.

Crapple needs to be stopped! How utterly ridiculous... Okay everyone say it with me. Prior Art...

The patent documents will be such a page-turner.

Too bad I won't be able to read the patent because I'll have to turn pages

"Apple sues God for bible patent infringement"

IMHO, that is such bull... I'm going to patent skipping down the street! Patent Reform needed!

Apple needs to be burned in every way. I hope I see the day that they go bankrupt. Patent BS.

hey if the government gave me that patent id take it lol then id ask for more. can you really blame them?

+Roy Rosales Just because they can, doesn't mean they should. This is playing dirty, and does nothing but to prove that they have been out of ideas a long time now...

For Apple: a legal victory, but a PR nightmare.

+Daniel Graham not really a pr nightmare. People that like Apple products don't care and will still buy their products. It's mostly those that don't like Apple product that complain. I think Apple can live with that.

I like how everyone is piling on Apple for this patent when it says this at the end of the article (no one reads the articles apparently):

"Apple is not the first company to go after the virtual page turn. As part of its now-defunct Courier tablet project, Microsoft applied for -- though has not yet been granted -- a utility patent for the feature in early 2009, something that caused a bit of a stir at the time. Samsung also applied for its own such page turning patent in Europe last October, and Google was granted a design patent near the end of 2010 for page turning on a "communications terminal."

Only in America as they don't understand the word novel.

That patent needs to be revoked and whichever person approved it should be fired.

+Reginald Watkins Maybe. Personally, I use all Apple products, although I also have a Nexus 7. At present, I have to use iOS devices, and a Mac computer, to run my business effectively. I would love to give these up, and will as soon as Android and, maybe, Chrome OS offer similar functionality and apps. I've grown to loathe Apple as a company, but I'm stuck using their products for the short term. In the long run, I'm hoping and expecting that Good and Open will beat Evil and Sexy.

Apple, thank you for this business anger demonstration. A thing to consumers think about.

I believe that all patents should have to get so many people in the US to approve that the company truly did it first before they get the patent.

Don't see the big deal as long as they don't sue anyone over it.

Either they patent it or someone else will and sue them over it.

'Merica

They didn't patent a book, they just patented the animation

+Blaine Magee I'll patent the chest movement that happens when we breath. Ain't it approvable? XD

New iOS frase: "There's a patent for that!"

Great.... Crapple is even more rotten now. All they need are some worms in their company now to make their logo complete.

I was going to take a leak, but I was afraid that unzipping my fly might be an Apple patented technique. Now, I have to go change my pants. smh

i bet Apple is going to try to Paten the Battery or paten something all electronic devices use like a LCD Touch screen or phone radio!! Apple is probably trying to knock out all the other phones like all android phone and windows phone and blackberry so you have now choice to get a iPhone if u want a phone bc the basic phones have LCD screen and apple will try to paten it!!!! Apple must me stopped and burned to the ground!!!

I think the animation itself should not be patentable. Disney movies like Cinderella, have page-turning animations, so there is nothing new there. At most, the specific coding algorithm to do it in iOS would be. Animations are all based on graphics interpolation, but there are many ways to do it and each way, if truly unique, might be considered for a patent.

So yea it's prob the algorithm

Stop it, Apple! You did not invent turning pages. you, people that are in charge at Apple is more of a nut than a fruit... Just stop it already!

Oh my god! This is ruining my life as a consumer! I'll never be able to turn another page without paying apple a nickel!

Get a grip. Absolutely none of these companies actually cares for you as a person. Not apple, microsoft, or google care what you think because there are always other people willing to buy their product. For instance, look at apple, they are the most valuable company in the world. Do you want to know why? Because other people buy their products. If you have a real problem with one of these companies call their help lines (or support forum for google), but stop complaining on g+.

Breaking news:  Apple has been granted a patent for breathing... If you don't buy an iPhone, you don't legally have the privilege of breathing.... asshats

+Simon Whight , if they did try to Patent turning pages as an algorithm first, then explain to me how Apple got the patent? Whomever first patents anything patentable gets the patent. I do not believe you.

Stop these ridiculous patents!

Wow. Why? A lot of apps and products need to use this! Apple doesn't make the only products that people use to read books.

Apple plays dirty by trying to patent features other devices use. This is one of many reasons I dislike Apple.

All of you are completely blind to anything but hatred toward apple. You people see one negative apple post and go crazy without even investigating or fully reading the article. You'll all just part of the rabble. Congratulations.

My opinion of apple hasn't changed in 25 years, sonny.

+Roy Rosales it's comical how if people read the article they would see that Microsoft, Samsung, and Google have also filed for page turn patents. But they can't resist the knee jerk reaction long enough to make it through the article.

Seems no one even took the time to read the article before making a stupid apple bashing comment.

"To be clear, this is a design patent and doesn't actually cover the computational underpinnings of flipping pages virtually. Unlike a utility patent, which would include various claims for things the patent does and does not cover, this type of patent is designed to protect the look and feel of the software in the event of any lawsuits. That's an important difference given any potential legal fight in which this patent could be brought out.

I used a Macintosh in the 4th grade. I programmed it to make fart noises every time I hit a key. That is the extent of my experience with Apple products.

+Simon Whight Well that makes it even worse. Because if others applied and they were denied, why did they grant it ti Apple. That's favoritism at the highest

Apple does not have the innovation to create something new.  They patent everything so they can sue everone for infringment.  This is the new capitalist way to make money.
