Installation view of Lisa Adams: "Petrichor" in our gallery 2, on view through April 9, 2017.

"Nothing is quite what it appears to be in Adams’ fictitious worlds - leaving the viewer to use their own imagination. Adams creates puzzles the viewer must decipher to discover “what is off ” in each picture of a disjointed world. These paintings are often what Adams calls “polar worlds crushed together in the same place” which she says is “almost like the edge of madness.”" —Lita Barrie, The Huffington Post

Check out this wonderful review of Lisa Adams' exhibitions at CB1 Gallery and College of the Canyons Art Gallery. Thank you Lita Barrie and Huffington Post!

"Lisa Adams’ idiosyncratic paintings are interior monologues. Her paintings are a hybrid of representation and abstraction, landscape and still life, surrealist and dystopian imagery that blur so many genre lines, they defy categorization. Adams’ paintings play with anomalies that are disturbing, eccentric, and quirky - rather like Tim Burton’s movies. Her paintings are fictitious worlds built from disjointed fragments that evoke her own bewilderment in a world that is falling apart."

Michael Mancari, "Walking Little Tokyo," 2016, oil on canvas, 59.5" x 77"

"Mancari's work is super-duper. It has got figurative landscape and lots of deconstruction and abstraction. Mancari's work reverberates with the early paintings of Tomory Dodge (landscape reintegrating into abstraction.) This work addresses the mind while encouraging the spirit. Its depth offers what makes art enduring." —Doug Simay

Michael Mancari: "Motherboard" is on view through April 9, 2017.

#TBT Lisa Adams, "Land's End," 2014, oil on canvas over panel, 30" x 24", first shown at CB1 Gallery in 2014. This painting is currently showing in Lisa's solo exhibition at the College of the Canyons Art Gallery. It is the LAST DAY to see the show, closing at 4 p.m.

"Adams’ paintings are often situated at the land’s end where the borders between land, sea and sky are unclear. ... In Land’s End (2014) she uses the silhouette of her hand - made windmill marquette which she flattens, to suggest a world that has been washed away at the edge of land and water." —Lita Barrie, The Huffington Post http://cb1.co/95

San Diego collector Doug Simay's passion for art is evident in his frequent trips to galleries all around Southern California. It's always good to have him visit us, and this is what he has to say about Lisa Adams' work:

"I am used to seeing Lisa Adams paint significantly large canvases. The works in this exhibition are all small paintings (between 20 and 24 inches). It seems it would be much harder to activate a small painting than a big one. It is harder to make the "story" with less visual acreage and without the drama of scale. Several of the paintings in this show are smashing successes. They are even more powerful than they might be at larger scale. Economy, precision, focus, spirit – the strongest of Lisa Adams' work have all these qualities. Great painters make great small paintings. True here and true today."

Come see Lisa's solo exhibition, "Petrichor," on view through April 9. (Image: "Telic Forces," 2016, oil on canvas, 18" x 22")
