And the winner is......
Uh, actually; there was no real "winner." Almost 2 weeks ago, we posted that we needed some art work done to revamp our version of "Dr. Tux". He is the new Reglue mascot. We wanted fresh graphics for our exposition table at +Texas Linux Fest
this year. I am really looking forward to seeing +Rikki Endsley
, +Cody Lee
, +Nathan Willis
and (hopefully) my buddy +Larry Cafiero
in early June.
So I posted on my blog and on G+ that we would hold a competition for the best rendition of these graphics for both a banner and a sign. The prizes were Amazon gift certs in the amounts of $100.00 $50.00 and $25.00. After the 4th day, I got a bit nervous about no responses so I pulled the blog post and G+ post and took up Graphix Guru +Mike Daymon
's offer. I just couldn't let this run out of time.
We paid him far less than he is worth and we are glad to have him to work for us when we need it. He does fantastic work. Aside from his website and graphics work, he is a fantastic artist. He works on small pieces of hard board and I am lucky enough to own two original Daymon works. http://tinyurl.com/ocp6dyb
We have been working primarily with the Reglue neon logo by Mark Adams and it still goes out on every correspondence we send and is emblazoned across our front door. We decided to work this year with the logo Mark Riale supplied us as well. For this venture, we think the "tubular" look is good for what we need. Thanks to Mark and Mark for their great work.
Here is the roughout of the banner we had made and the mock up of the sign with his graphics. The sign will hang alongside the HeliOS Project sign on our building and the banner will be draped along the back of our booth curtain. I think he did a hell of a job.
But we all stand on the shoulders of giants. The original concept for our Doctor Tux can be found on crystalxp.net
and is the creation of "chako". http://tinyurl.com/pbjz7vd
Mike took our roughout drafts and did a clean 'svg and .eps so it can go to the printers with no small graphic hassles. Mike, thanks a bunch. If you would like any of these Dr. Tux files, message me and I will make it so.
