WMNF News spoke with Hassan Shibly, the executive director of CAIR-Florida, the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
“Look, I think this whole incident has been a wake-up call for the hypocrisy in how Israel treats Palestinian-Americans and how it treats American citizens. The fact of the matter is the Israelis tried to stop this Florida student from studying in Israel even though she got accepted at the university there. She had a valid visa to study there.

Grassroots Past & Present: South Florida

A big thank you to our legal director, Thania Diaz-Clevenger, Thomas Kennedy from the Florida Immigrant Coalition, Dwight Bullard from The New Florida Majorityand Nancy Abudu from ACLU of Florida, and local activist Maha Elkholalli for joining us at Miami Gardens Masjid last Saturday for the third statewide grassroots event. Holding this dialogue within different stakeholders in the fight for justice gave us a wholesome discussion about what it means to advocate under the current political climate of this nation.

Our work continues but your support allows us to brew the constructive dialogue necessary to empower the Muslim community. Thank you to all those who attended and the Islamic Center of Greater Miami for hosting us.
