Introduction

Bug G. Membracid is the pseudonym of entomologist Gwen Pearson. She wrote online for many years under this name, since as a state employee her ability to rant, rave, and discuss insects using her real name was limited.

Gwen is the Outreach Coordinator for the Purdue Department of Entomology. She also is a writer for WIRED.

My latest post at WIRED is totally about science. And bees. And also vibrators. But mostly science.

Context.
Years of abuses are every bit as egregious as what the Department of Justice documented in Ferguson, Missouri, and as deserving of a national response.

My thoughts are with my friends in Nepal. So terrible.
At least 876 people are confirmed to have died as Nepal suffers its worst earthquake for more than 80 years, with deaths also reported in India and Bangladesh.

There is a street performer below my window with a tambourine. I will look for you, I will find you, and I will shove that thing so far up your ass you will jingle every time you cough.

Periodic reminder I have a monthly news letter that goes out later today, should you want to get insects in your inbox. Because who DOESN'T want that, really?

I don't think we have much data on anything but honey bees. There are a few papers on worms, and on butterflies, but I haven't seen flies yet.

Depressing as hell. The most polluted bird in the world.
A Cooper's hawk, found in Greater Vancouver, is the most polluted wild bird that has been found anywhere in the world.
