Frequently much of the original intent is often obscured by trying to make the Bible say something it doesn't.
Reading it as literature and not Scripture can really open up so many fresh interpretations.
In a sermon I did called 'Who's afraid of the Big Bad God', I wondered how a modern reading of the Adam and Eve story couldn't see Eve and the Serpent as the true heroes of the story. Questioning, resilience to blind acceptance of authority are things we value. Struggle, pain and toil aren't curses but just the way things are for us. Eden sounds nice but I prefer exile with my fellow humans.
