Flying Around Naples - Naples, Florida

About a month ago I traveled to Naples, Florida for one of my best friends' wedding. Didn't do too much running around for photographic purposes, but I caught this bird flying around the Naples Pier.

pretty neat. slide those bars.

The cherry blossoms have reached peak bloom in Washington, another sign that a chilly winter has come to an end. Winter blanketed the region with snow on numerous occasions, bringing 30.3 inches to city during the season.

On the left, bare cherry trees are seen along the Tidal Basin on March 4 during a snowstorm, the same day the National Park Service released its projections for peak blossoms. Just a Touch of Fog - San Francisco, CA

I was in the city this evening and was fortunate to catch some low fog creeping it's way into the city. It's so much fun chasing the fog around San Francisco.

I really loved the photographs in this piece.

photos by +David Schalliol (I think).
Developers cleared the city's land for big projects, but when the housing bubble burst, nothing was built. Now, homes stand alone in Chicago's depopulated areas, as these haunting images from David Schalliol's Isolated Building Studies show.

There's a (hazy) Blood Moon on the Rise - San Jose, CA

After some deliberation last night I decided to head out for the blood moon. I got to the spot with a foreground that I wanted but it was clear that the haze in the San Jose skies wouldn't let up. I headed home and just viewed the #bloodmoon from my balcony.

It's soft, but this is what I had last night :)

I didn't go further than ISO 1600. I tried a few above that but it was so unusably grainy. a longer or faster lens would have helped.

Fire Breaths - San Francisco, CA

I was looking forward to going to this month's fire jam, but last minute I was sent to LA for work. Bummers. I won't be able to go to the Union Square Fire Expo because I'm going to be out of town for a wedding. If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area on April 26th come out to the free show.

Hassle-full Wedding - San Jose, CA

It's a little early for #tbt but it was really nice for +David Hasselhoff to how up at our wedding in 2011. I was hoping that he'd wear his piano scarf, but I was really happy he was able to make it at all.

First off, reservations are a must. They have a cancellation wait list, but when I was there at around 545pm on Sunday, there was already a long list, and the bar area was full. Fortunately, my wife and I did have reservations. The food was quite good. I had a the rotisserie of the day, which was a pork dish (I <3 pork) with some potatoes. I would have preferred a more interesting side rather than simple potatoes. The pork was a boston butt that was delicious and a good portion size. The appetizers we tried were the lamb riblets and fried smelts. Both were very good, albeit small portions. Portions were fine for 2 people, but if you are in a larger party, expect to double up. We also had the dessert of the day, which was a dish of fried phyllo pieces with honey and creme fraiche. Both my wife and I enjoyed the dessert but both agreed that we would have like the phyllo pieces to have been crispier. The have what looks to be a wonderful selection of wines, but neither of us had any on this night. The staff was very friendly and even called us immediately when they had noticed that I had forgotten my credit card. That saved me a drive, since we live about an hour away :)

Delicious selection of coffee and well made. This location is pretty large with lots of seating, but for those who are gadget addicted, not that many outlets. Staff has always been friendly and it's a usual stop for me as I'm heading out to some beach along Hwy 1.

I was meeting friends here for late dinner and drinks. Parking was really easy so that's a plus for me since I'm usually driving from the South Bay. The place is a nice booth style bar with a decent amount of seating for 4, but not that many places for groups larger than that. The food overall was okay. I tried a carnitas zapatos, and carne asada fries. I'm a carnitas kind of guy, but I found it a little dry. The carne asada was definitely better. The chips were a pretty good snack value. The beer selection was pretty good and the service was so quick and friendly that it's a great place to have a simple dinner with some friends and watch a game.

In short, pork chop > burger. People have been telling me about the Nopa burger, but I felt like it was just okay. Nothing really stood out about the burger that makes me want to go back for it. That being said, the pork chop IS something I'd return multiple times for. A large portion of pork chops, excellently prepared, was a wonderful treat. It's a nice place for a dinner date, but be sure to get reservations or your wait will be pretty long.

A great place for dessert easily accessible while enjoy downtown Palo Alto. Just stopped in one evening after dinner on whim and it was totally worth it. Between my wife and I, we tried 4 flavors: Biscott & cream, mint & brownie, salted caramel, and turkish coffee. All 4 flavors were really good. I settled on Biscott & cream and salted cream for my two scoops. The staff was really friendly. I saw a few people order shakes. I wonder if that's a thing here. I'll have to try it next time.

I attended an event that doubled as a product feature announcement and photographic art gallery. The space was quite large and had plenty of room for attendees to mingle and enjoy the photography on display. There was an upstairs space as well, but I don't think that was accessible for this particular event. The catering, bartenders, security, and staff I interacted with was friendly and wonderful. I'm not sure if they directly associated with the location or contracted in by the event planners, but great customer service should always get a mention.

This unassuming locale serves up a delcious falafel. The outsides are crisp and the insides are full of flavor. I used to go with the falafel in a pita pocket, but these days I go for a lunch plate and take some home. Many of my friends have raved about the banana shake. It's good, but I might not be a fan of any banana shake to be able to rave about it. The shakes are worth a try.
