$50m to shut down a program that costs $2m annually and advances science. Harper is an idiot.

Assembly complete on shoe rack/bench. First time turning around an assembly in a day. Holds weight well and doesn't wobble, so pretty content. Used screws this time for the important joints, since the dresser isn't holding up as well as I hoped.

Finally got around to doing a speed test on my network connections. Comcast: 11Mb down, 4Mb up. Verizon 4G at home (unlimited, grandfathered in): 14 Mb down, 5 Mb up. Since the Comcast connection has been enough bandwidth at home so far, it might be time to finally cut the cord completely.

Woke up to a nice display and breakfast by the roommate's girlfriend. She did it all last night, which was tough because MT and I were sleeping on the couch until 2am when she starting making a lot of noise "cooking because she was hungry" to get us to go to bed.

I just want to re-iterate for anybody still dealing with the big banks and their fees: Schwab has the best chequing account that you can get.
- No monthly or annual fees
- No minimum balance
- Not only do they not charge for using an "out-of-network" ATM, but they REIMBURSE your ATM fees (go ahead, use that expensive convenience store ATM - it doesn't cost you anything)
- They have a mobile app (Android and iPhone) for depositing cheques just by taking a picture (you don't even have to send them the cheque, just hang onto it until it goes through)
- They even give you some money as interest (not much, but it's an example of the fact that Schwab doesn't eat away at your money, they give it to you)

Apply here:
http://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/home/account_types/brokerage/schwab_one_with_ic.html

The only downside is the lack of brick-and-mortar branches, but all use cases aside from cash deposits have been solved. I still keep a normal account open for funneling large cash deposits through (which is actually very rare, especially if you insist on cheques or PayPal), but because my uses of that account are so limited, I don't get hit with any fees. (No need to deposit small amounts of cash, just spend it.)

I wouldn't be surprised if you could find something like this in Canada, although not from a brick-and-mortar bank, or even credit union. Try looking at the virtual banks, like ING.

America's Tire removed the nail that was causing me to slowly lose pressure and fixed the tire. For free. Is this normal?

FACT: They fix flats for free, even if you didn't buy the tires from the them.

Looks like I will have to push forward with finding a new credit card after all. Although Bank of America offers competitive rewards, their service is absolute garbage. We all knew that though, which is why we all switched away from them, right?

Since I had my credit card purchased by them, I figured it was convenient enough, but nobody should have to deal with a website that's down half the time just to get a few extra bucks in rewards.

Oh, and as a point of reference, Schwab's website loads instantly.

You'll definitely find Mint overly simplistic. For me, the only truly useful feature is just listing everything in one place.

I'd be willing to pay if someone could recommend GOOD software. I also suspect that Mint will continue to evolve.

Extremely slow and understaffed. Rent from another agency if you value your time. Kiosk is deceivingly convenient and it just points you to the long line anyway.

Donuts are good, but avoid the sandwiches. They can't seem to get sandwich orders right and I even found a hair in my most recent order.

Service at this place was absolutely awful. Our reservation wasn't ready for us and we had to wait 20 minutes for our table. Meanwhile, another large group came in 15 minutes after us and were seated right away, before we were even seated. The steaks did not come out all at the same time. I waited a good 5 minutes between when others in my party got their steaks and when I got mine. My girlfriend's steak was overdone (ordered medium-rate and got more like medium to medium-well). We sent it back, and instead of fixing the problem, the server came back with the steak now cut open down the center and insisting that the chef claimed this to be medium-rare. It wasn't; the rest of our party had properly done medium-rare steaks sitting in front of them for comparison. Not only did they not acknowledge our request to fix the steak, they argued with us and returned a steak that was worse (cut open and juices lost) than we started. As we signed out receipts, my girlfriend left an honest note on her receipt regarding our experience. After gathering all our receipts and going to the back, the server came back and had "lost" her receipt and insisted on getting the customer copy signed and returned. Don't go here - the bad service is not something you should have to deal with when you're dropping $100 per person. For reference of a good place to drop $100 at a steakhouse, see Alexander's in Cupertino. They have a Michelin star; it's pretty obvious why Bobo's does not.

Poor selection and awful service. While there's plenty of employees working, non of them are helpful in finding what you're looking for.

Surprisingly good hole in the wall. We had the teriyaki bowl, breakfast burrito, and some roll with seaweed on it. All of it was really tasty and for a fair price.

Went to add myself as a driver for an Enterprise reservation. These people told me they could not add me on the reservation because the reservation was at an airport and they use different systems. No further service was provided.
