Today's headache.

Android's expansion file download system.

What are you meant to do when the OBB is on device but the SD Cards isn't mounted?

The downloader starts regardless, fun times.

When the SD Card becomes available the download begins. At that point I can detect the OBB exists and stop the activity but the download has already re-begun.

Do I have to block the downloader starting altogether if the external storage isn't mounted? Seems that way. All of our UI is in the OBB though.

Do I need to increase the API size to have images to show at that point?

Decisions, decisions.

I'm going to be in San Francisco for the next 6 days.

Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do?

Would any Google employees do a tour of Mountain View? :)

My second book has been published, yay!

This one is on learning C++ for game development but is a good primer regardless.

If you're interested in reviewing my work, let me know and I can sort you out with a code :)

My wife, Claire, is conducting a PhD studying cyber bullying and ways in which interventions can be carried out.

Her current study is an online questionnaire. The participants she needs are girls aged between 10 and 15. The questionnaire takes around 15 minutes to complete and involves answering questions based on short animated videos.

You can email cyberscenarios@gmail.com if you are interested in helping her and trying to combat cyber bullying.

If you're not in the group of required participants, it world be awesome if you could share this post to help find others who can help.

Thank you.

Bending my brain with some #C++ template metaprogramming:

template <int stringLength>
struct SDBMCalculator
{
        static inline int Calculate(const char* const stringToHash, int& value)
        {
                int character =
                        SDBMCalculator<stringLength - 1>::Calculate(stringToHash, value);
                value = character + (value << 6) + (value << 16) - value;
                return stringToHash[stringLength - 1];
        }

        static inline int CalculateValue(const char* const stringToHash)
        {
                int value = 0;
                int character = SDBMCalculator<stringLength>::Calculate(stringToHash, value);
                value = character + (value << 6) + (value << 16) - value;
                return value;
        }
};

template <>
struct SDBMCalculator<1>
{
        static inline int Calculate(const char* const stringToHash, int& value)
        {
                return stringToHash[0];
        }
};
