For educators: Here's a quick demo on how to record an instructional Gif using Screencast-O-Matic for embedding/sharing. The gif in this example shows students how to archive their assignments in their Google Drive student folders. The post editor in this clip is Windows Live Writer (which I highly recommend!). Here are some related links:

For educators: Embedding Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendars and Maps on your campus website can provide lots of collateral benefits. Here are a few:

- Engage your administrators and staff in the use of a host of collaborative tools to provide current information to your viewers (and to their students and parents)

- Provide OJT for collaborators by inviting them first to comment, and later as they gain more confidence and skill, as co-editors of the materials embedded on your site (which hopefully will transfer over to their teaching practices!)

- Reduce lag time in getting information posted on your site (since it's probably a second-order consideration for a teacher who doubles as the webmaster) and also by eliminating the email attachment cycle

- Greatly reduce the complexity of website editing since embedded materials are far easier to edit!

- Take advantage of the built-in scroll bars inherent in embedded docs so that website menus remain visible at all times

Our website has a long way to go, but you can get the gist of what I'm saying by viewing the pages here:  http://schools.bisdtx.org/default.aspx?name=bms.homepage

One fact I'm particularly proud of is that our teachers currently collaborate on weekly parent newsletters (GDocs: one for each grade level) which inform parents on key events going on in all subject areas. Our parents frequently comment on how helpful they are... I highly recommend you try that practice!

For Educators (or other EdTech-curious folks!): Reposted from my GAFE account

Personal EdTech Summer PD Tour
Here are the first 12 weeks of this semester's computer literacy course in order by week presented. I'm posting this now before the end of the year rush (and for those who stop reading posts on the last day of school!) but I'll post a complete version when the course concludes. I'm also demonstrating one possible use for the Chrome OneTab extension, which could be used to post a website tour for any purpose. There should be plenty here for you to browse and I hope you find something useful or at least entertaining. There's a 5 semester cross-section archive by week at the top-right of the Blog if you would like to see how the course has developed and adapted to new developments in tools and techniques. You can comment, question, suggest improvements or provide additional resource links related to anything you see in the course (as my students do) by clicking on the click-to-comment link at the end of every section of every day. Have a great weekend :)
