Anyone who tries to improve any way they can is not a loser, but I do like this 'systems' perspective :)
This post originally appeared on the Crew blog. Even if New Year’s Resolutions aren’t your thing, a new year is always a good time to reflect and evaluate your progress ...

Super-hydrophobic properties could lead to applications in solar panels, sanitation and as rust-free metals. Scientists at the University of Rochester have used lasers to transform metals into extremely water repellent, or super-hydrophobic, materials without the need for temporary coatings.

Some in-class demos cross posted from my GAFE account. Hope they're of use to someone :)

Today in class we're transferring a complete Google Drawing to a Google Slide and editing the individual elements within GSlides. The drawing was created by transferring colors picked from photos using the ColorZilla extension and filled using the Pixlr App. If you're curious about either of these processes, I've recorded the screencasted demos (no audio) of each below. You can see how these topics were introduced to the class at this Blog entry for the week: http://308today.blogspot.com/2015/01/week2-s15-jan-12thjan-16th.html

If you use Windows Live Writer to post to Blogger and you choose 'Turn off access to less secure apps' during Google's Security Check, you may not be able to access your Blog through Live Writer... at least that's what happened to me. Turning that access back on again in my Google Account Settings allowed me to connect again :)

Animated gifs work as backgrounds for Google Forms, and while that might not have a lot of practical applications, it looks cool :)  Below you'll find an example from this week's student reflections form. Click the pop-up link in the window below to see the animations more clearly.

Google has a new tool you'll want to check out before you're next road trip, ski excursion or pub crawl. On Wednesday, the company launched Google My Maps, a new online tool you can use to create custom Google Maps. Each map you make is saved to the Google Drive cloud storage service.
