Vail Resorts has a unique opportunity to turn two decent ski areas into one spectacular one... but doing so will require sensitivity and a lighter hand than they demonstrated in Vail, Colorado.
How do you turn two very different ski areas into one unified brand and vision? In the case of Vail Resorts, the answer seems to be by dreaming big and simultaneously making the fewest possible changes. In a press conference this afternoon that was packed with over 500 locals, Park City’s chief [...]

Five ways to keep your most talented employees (Forbes article)
The core of all business success is employee talent. Without a talented team, you may work long and hard but never accomplish much of anything. But how do you keep your team together, once you have attracted the right kind of talent? Ego, ambition, real financial concerns and the quest for bigger [...]

The secret of life, no kidding. Pass the word.
Since most LinkedIn readers are over the age of seven, here's a quick reminder of how a seesaw works. You sit on one end, and another person sits at the other. You use your feet to push your side up in the air, which makes the other person's side go down. Then the other person does the same, and your side goes down. You keep taking turns until one of you gets bored, falls off, or has to go home and take a nap.Every healthy civilization, organizat...

More than any other I've ever come across, this sentence could change the course of humanity.

It has the potential to unite, rather than divide, us.

It has the potential to change the path of your own life and career. It's changing mine right now.

Christina Fagan has personality and guts. She better. Any 25-year-old who quits her job to launch a knitting startup better be damn good at scaling past the solo entrepreneur stage.

Case in point: Christina launched a $15,000 Kickstarter campaign yesterday. 22 hours later, she has $13,145. She might even make it before Day Two begins.

Mark my words: you have a lot to learn from this talented young entrepreneur. While you're at it, buy one of her knitted pieces. It will upgrade your image, and keep you warm this winter.

Pay attention to the people around you, or else...
Last year, I met a friend – let’s call him Brian – for a beer, and he greeted me by admitting, “I think I’m going to get fired.”Earlier that afternoon, Brian was in a meeting with the CEO of his firm, and the CEO “barely said a word” to him, looked down the whole time and rushed out of the room “so he wouldn’t have to talk to” Brian. In fairness, the firm was going through some challenging times and it seemed likely that some people would be let g...

Kare Anderson taught me to actively seek out people who are startlingly different than me, and why this matters so much.
Kare Anderson wonders whether YOU are capable of finding win/win opportunities with people who are very different from you. She describes this unique and powerful skill as being an Opportunity Maker. This role involves three fundamental steps, none of which you can skip: Finding shared interests with others Creating trust Establishing a joint commitment to build on shared interests In all honesty, it took me months to fully grasp what Kare was say...

You want to do something special in life? Bring out the talent in other people.
The best talent is bringing out talent in others, but what if it is very hard to SEE the talent in someone?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a great comment about how seeing the light and helping bring out the talent in others will help bring out the best in us all.

“Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.”

Love, love, love this place. Great staff, great vibe. My only problem is that I am sometimes so relaxed after a massage I literally have to sit down for a few minutes before I'm ready to drive.
