Creating Mobile Friendly Websites
Is your website mobile friendly. If not you need to make it that way to remain competitive. There are still a lot of sties that have not embraced mobile and its going to become more a problem for those sites, not only in terms of user experience, but in rankings. The search engines are starting to pay more attention to how a site performs and looks when viewed on a mobile device.

There were some prettyy cool tech gadgets shared at CES this year. The connected home gadgets may change the way every one lives once they hit critical acceptance.
It's official: another CES is in the can. And with two show floors, it was more packed than ever. So what did we learn? And what does it mean for tech in 2015 and beyond?

Is your site mobile friendly?

If you run a website and care at all about your traffic sources, then you have installed Google Webmaster Tools on your domain.

Also if you have not been living under a rock and ignore emails from Google, then you know they are serious about your site being mobile friendly.

If you haven't made your site mobile friendly by now, you may want to get on it or don't come crying with you take a hit on the next update. They have told you.
This test will analyze a URL and report if the page has a mobile-friendly design. Learn more about the mobile-friendly criteria and how it may affect Google's search results by reading our blog post. PageSpeed Insights API update -- a simple way to check a bunch of URLs for mobile-friendliness is to use the PageSpeed insights API. We just launched an update to the API that gives you a bit more information about speed & score, as well as a clearer format for text-responses.

You can check it out at https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/v2/getting-started

Just grab an API key, copy & paste the code samples (or use the command line, if you're into that), and maybe even get started on creating a physical speed meter for your homepage ( http://www.jacobquatier.com/posts/2014/12/01/the-meter/ ) as a weekend project. If you have a bunch of clients that you're watching out for, it won't take much to track their important pages like this automatically.

Recently noted that if your page is not mobile friendly, you will see a note about that in the Page Speed Insights section in Google Analytics.

A Galaxy Full of Surprises | European Southern Observatory
This image, from ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), shows a truly remarkable galaxy known as NGC 3621. To begin with, it is a pure-disc galaxy. Like other spirals, it has a flat disc permeated by dark lanes of material and with prominent spiral arms where young stars are forming in clusters (the blue dots seen in the image). But while most spiral galaxies have a central bulge — a large group of old stars packed in a compact, spheroidal region — NGC 3621 doesn’t.

NGC 3621 is also interesting as it is believed to have an active supermassive black hole at its center that is engulfing matter and producing radiation. This is somewhat unusual because most of these so-called active galactic nuclei exist in galaxies with prominent bulges. In this particular case, the supermassive black hole is thought to have a relatively small mass, of around 20,000 times that of the Sun.

Another interesting feature is that there are also thought to be two smaller black holes, with masses of a few thousand times that of the Sun, near the nucleus of the galaxy. Therefore, NGC 3621 is an extremely interesting object which, despite not having a central bulge, has a system of three black holes in its central region.

This galaxy is located in the constellation of Hydra (The Sea Snake) and can be seen with a moderate-sized telescope. This image, taken using B, V, and I filters with the FORS1 instrument on the powerful VLT, shows striking detail in this odd object and also reveals a multitude of background galaxies. A number of bright foreground stars that belong to our own Milky Way are also visible.

Integrating Social Media in Education Technology
Introduction
Social Media can have a huge effect on education. Students are communicating with people all over the world in a way that has never before been seen in history. This is mainly do to the growth of new social media communication tools.

I investigate methods to utilize these new tools and look for interesting ways to incorporate these in the classroom.

Bruce Hopkins is an accomplished IT Professional. He has worked on projects such as DotNetNuke and numerous private individual projects. For the most part he is a geek. He got his first computer in 1986 and has never lost his amazement of what all the impact technology has on shaping society especially education.

I'm just here to learn from others and hopefully be able to share my knowledge   I've learned over the past 20 years since I decided to make my profession The support of IT equipment for other companies. The past 15 have been in an educational environment. I've worked as the technical direction taken at several small Technical Colleges and I've seen what impact technology can have on the success or failure of average students.

But those are not average students they are ever bit as deserving of a quality education. Even though most in college would consider me a staff member at the Director Level does not mean I'm not an educator. Its the faculty's job to provide the education its my responsibility to figure out new and interesting ways to deliver that technology in any format where the student can effectively consume that content.

*Warning Potential Rant Follows:*

Money is always tight at schools so the deliverer of that technology must be economical as well as state of the art to really do the job. Since money is tight very few of institutions adequately fund their IT Departments effectively. They look at their technology as a burden a necessary beast. That sad thing is if they would fund technology for just a few years and spend on the right projects, then they can make a difference so many other areas of the college and receive enhanced efficiency in areas such as student services where long lines can be decreased. Or the time from receipt of student application to student sitting in the seat decreased because of inefficiencies in the process. Technology can help to stream line the tasks involved.

I'm here to learn from peers in the educational field.

This is a brand new site and its going to follow all the rules. Posts must be original( curation is alright as long as its done right) Posts should be done to the tone of providing instruction, illustration, to the reader of the site. Who are other educators wanting to enhance their use of technology in the classroom. This site is fairly new so you have a chance to help mold its direction. We do reserve the right to edit any grammatical errors. Send me a message if you are interested in providing content on the role of social media in the classroom or even how to do it( those are better)

Worst job of my life. Those so called education companies out there who are already educating people do a horrible job. Real Educators need to start offering their services using many of the same technologies and put out good information.

  • Chattahoochee Technical College
    Network Admin, 2000 - 2002
Kept the servers and network running. The boss kept breaking it so I had to go behind him and fix it. Turns out I wound up fixing all of his screw ups. you don't manage technology departments through intimidation. You manage IT departments by realizing the guys and girls who run around and fix your computers have good ideas too. They are the ones seeing the problems in your school and if you allow them they will help you to fix it. Management are not the only ones who innovate in the right IT Shop.

I've been having some lower back pain. I've been to multiple doctors who have prescribed pain meds as well as steroids to alleviate the pain. Neither of which made any difference. After weeks of enduring the pain. I tried to schedule an appointment with a Chiropractor, but could not get in and appointment. I eventually decided to give therapeutic massage a try. Went to Ambiance and got an hour from Stephanie. She did wonders with my pain and for the first time in weeks I could sit and walk without cringing. Wasn't totally cured after the first session. Since then went and saw the Chiropractor and he helped, but the pain is still there. Took another session with Stephanie and feel better now than I have in weeks. Will be scheduling another appointment soon. The lady seems to have magical fingers and knows exactly where to massage to help you walk out feeling better than when you came in.
