Another grab bag from a bike ride in Coe.

First time seeing a checkerspot in a while.  Just a few years ago they were the dominate butterfly, then they effectively vanished.  Hopefully they are out of diapause, but with the drought I would not count on it.

The inside of a very large furnace, a ride across a bowstring-arch timber truss bridge, and a visit to a familiar mountain.  All in a day's adventure.

Saturday grab bag:  Some odd trees, a turkey or two, and the sunset.

8 seconds of stop motion.  Kind of a found video for me, as I forgot about it - then just came across this now.

Foam rafts.
I took a short hike on Big Creek just for the fun of it.  It's really beautiful but makes for a difficult photography problem.  The white granite and even brighter rapids are blinding in afternoon sun.  So as I was standing at the pool at the falls, trying to take in the scenery, I noticed the foam floating on the water.  It fascinated me, so after an unknown amount of time fiddling with camera settings here is what I saw.

I added another shot from the inside of the furnace at Dinkey Mill.  This floor to ceiling shot in portrait orientation gives a better view of the dimensions than the other two landscape shots.

Still, it looks like something from a science fiction movie.

Wow, that one's in great shape!  I wonder if they were designed from the start to just be left to rust.  I don't think I ever saw one painted, and I guess the heat from the burning would have destroyed any paint anyway.

Domino Pond and Cattle Duster trails are awesome now.  Wildlife viewing is great too.  Highlights from yesterday's ride were watching hill topping butterflies doing aerial acrobatics, and a posse of chest thumping turkeys in full display.  I tried to get closer to the turkeys for a photo, but a tree fell and startled them.

Assorted photos from a Saturday ride in Henry Coe State Park.

I love to ride in the park after a light rain.  There is virtually no mud thanks to the drought, but everything was so fresh.  I even stopped to eat some foragables and party with the wildlife.  (Okay, maybe that last part is a little exaggeration.)  I waited for sunset on Willson Peak, and descended the steep park trails in the dusk with lights.
