I'm participating in Extra Life again this year, 24 hours of gaming to help children in need.

PLEASE DONATE! Look below for the link to the donation page, and feel free to RSVP to this event for updates as things progress toward the event weekend. Even if you can only spare $5, it certainly adds up... if everyone in my initial invite list donated that much, my goal would be surpassed by over 50%. All donations are tax deductible, at least for those of you in the US, and all proceeds in my case go to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

http://www.extra-life.org/participant/140508

If you're not comfortable donating online, or can't for some other reason, cash donations are welcome if I'm likely to see you in person sometime this year. In that case, though, keep in mind that I can't give you a receipt for tax purposes.

If you'd like to help me out by spreading the word, feel free to share the link to this event page (that's one reason why it's public) or go even further and invite your friends directly.

Thanks in advance for your support!

If any of you is interested in the Rainbow 6 game franchise, Ubisoft is teaming up with Extra Life this year to give everyone who donates $6 or more a Guaranteed Access key to the Rainbow 6 Siege closed beta, starting September 24th. Donations on or after July 1st are included in the deal, and codes will be emailed starting mid-July.

Another indie sci-fi film that definitely seems worth checking out. It reminds me in a way of Brainstorm (1983).

Was talking about Brainstorm. Looking forward to Listening based on your recommendation!

The only problem I'm finding with #HeroesOfTheStorm PvP after playing against bots for months is being teamed up with people who haven't had that practice, and getting steamrolled by people who do know what they're doing. It might be less of a problem if they didn't apparently have game chat turned off.

Other than that, it's rather fun.

There's crazy, and there's "I support the troops, unless they're training in my back yard" (which also happens to be theirs) crazy.
Shots were fired near Camp Shelby, a military post in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and authorities were searching for suspected shooters, according to local media. This story has been updated. Please see below. No one was injured in the shooting, WJTV and WDAM television stations reported, and authorities told CNN that it was not an “active shooter” situation. The shots were fired at a group of soldiers who were training, according to WDAM. The stat...

And the shooters are lucky the Army didn't drop ordinance on them.

Hello everyone!

I started streaming with the Extra Life event last October, and have been doing it a couple of times per week since then. I'm usually live every Monday at 7pm EST/EDT, and often at least one other night during the week (usually Wednesday or Thursday).

Games currently in rotation:
- BioShock 2
- Assassin's Creed: Rogue
- Batman: Arkham City

I've been getting into Heroes of the Storm, as well, so that may show up on the stream from time to time.

As part of an effort to reduce my pre-stream ritual, I'm inviting those who are interested, but might not already be following my channel on Twitch (http://twitch.tv/maeglin73), to add the following page to a circle here on G+. Announcements will be posted there whenever I'm going live.

Currently in the game rotation:
- BioShock 2: Minerva's Den (recently finished the main game)
- Assassin's Creed: Rogue
- Batman: Arkham City
- Heroes of the Storm

I'll still be posting event stream announcements to the community here, but I'm not sure about future regular streams.

For banks and the other 1-2 companies that use it?
New submitter dmleonard618 writes: Micro Focus isn't writing off COBOL just yet. The company is trying to win developers over with COBOL with the latest release of Visual COBOL for Visual Studio. The new solution aims to bring back the ancient language and make it relevant again. "Visual COBOL for V...

You don't want to make a geocache too easy to find, or someone who doesn't know what's going on might find it and (unfortunately) trash it. Speaking from experience, here.

I do have one cache still active that I've hidden. It's been in place for over 11 years now, and people are still finding and logging it.

Yeah? So does your average phone company, unless they still employ humans to move wires around on switchboards.

*facepalm*
If it uses "computer processing," it isn't telecommunications, ISPs argue.

Is anyone else less than enthused about Windows 10? The one feature that I care about, which was removed in Windows 8 and is slowly being brought back, is the ability to easily manage stored info on wireless networks that are out of range. That one thing seems overshadowed by the list of things that are broken in this version at the moment.

The return of the start menu is no big deal to me (have had an aftermarket add-on for that since day 1 with Win8), I don't care about Cortana, I don't have an XBox, I don't use Metro apps...
