(It's been forever since I've been on Google+, but figure I should extend my reach here to talk about ONA13's Unconference So hear me out if you're going!)
I’m part of the Unconference team for this week's Online News Association 2013 conference & awards in Atlanta. So consider this my periodical pitch for you to get involved if you’re ATL-bound.
What is “Unconference”? In short, it’s an opportunity for journalists to pitch, vote on and attend workshops, discussions and sessions that are NOT on the main ONA13 schedule. And because we apparently have more room in Atlanta, that means we’ll have even more awesome Unconference sessions.
To me, this just makes ONA13 that much sweeter. While attendees have somewhat of a say in the regular schedule each year, this essentially gives us a second chance at generating strong workshops and sessions that will inspire rooms full of journalists.
We accept Unconference pitches through Friday, Oct. 18. More will be announced on the voting process later.
Another thing, to note, is the addition of “lightning talks”: Quick, five-minute speeches similar to what are given at the NICAR and TED conferences. The submission process is closed, but attendees can vote on the lightning-talk candidates from now until Thursday here: http://onaunconference.tumblr.com/lightning
. We’ll announce the winners on Friday.
Last, but not least, if you want to know more, go to our Unconference Tumblr: http://onaunconference.tumblr.com/
