"The Great Lakes are home to 20 percent of the world's freshwater and 90 percent of the freshwater in the U.S., providing drinking water for 30 million people in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, the lakes host wildlife reserves, fisheries, and recreational boating."

We cannot continue to roll the dice with such a precious natural resource. It's not a question of if, but when...we need to #shutdownLine5 now!
When President Barack Obama officially rejected the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline in September, it marked the end of a seven-year battle that even he admitted...

The small-town brewery that started in a college dorm bathroom grew from failure, modest beginning.

Tonight I'm enjoying a Barrel Aged Shipwreck Porter from Arcadia Brewing Company. 12% ABV, 50 IBUs, aged in bourbon barrels and always one of my favorites!

Forty years ago, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald was lost to a storm 17 miles northwest of Whitefish Point on Lake Superior. All 29 crew members died, as the mighty freighter sank.

To the crewmen lost and to their families!

That could be it indeed. But I guess Arcadia has altered their schedule before with this beer. They used to only bottle it every other year. But after opening their new location in Kalamazoo, they started brewing it every year.
You know something, I was at their Battle Creek location just last week too. I know last year's bottles were initially wax topped. But not many. They then moved to foil topped for the majority of the bottles. When I was there last week, they had maybe a case or two left for sale, and they were wax topped. Now I didn't think they were 2015 bottles for a couple of reasons. First, they haven't had their anniversary party yet. Second, typically this is a slow seller. Not sure why...other than price. If it had just been released, I would have expected to see way more available at the brewery. (Unless they brewed less this year.) Also, it was sitting right next to a couple cases of last year's Bourbon barrel aged Loch-Up, which no one really liked. So I was totally assuming "Last year's" batch when I saw them sitting next to each other. The only difference was they were wax topped. Another thing is when they released it last year, the local Battle Creek beer store had a shit ton in stock. So much of it that they made a floor display if it, rather than putting it in the shelves. And it was available for months. I haven't seen it in the shelves the last couple weeks I've gone other than a couple orphaned bottles that appear to be left over from last year.
This is one of those times I wish they had dates on the bottles.
I'll try and swing by the brewery tomorrow night and see if I can get an answer from them.

Thoroughly enjoying a Black Note Stout (2012) from #BellsBrewery for #StoutDay.

This one was phenomenal when it was fresh, but even better with a few years on it. Super rich and complex, yet very well balanced. I don't think I'll sit on the rest of what I have for too long, I think this is the sweet spot!

Cheers!

I think this is a great stout and a bit underappreciated.  I think the one I had a couple of months ago was a 2012 and was sooooo smooooove.

I'm having a Spank from Smuttynose Brewing Company tonight.
A hopped-up Saison, this one registers at 7.8% ABV. It's very approachable and I could definitely see buying this again...very nicely done.

Cheers!
