schema.org and microdata are different animals

When did +Search Engine Land do away with comments?  Anyway, since they did a note here to +Greg Finn and +Jon Henshaw that the absence of schema.org microdata does not the mean the absence of "Schema markup."

The Raven report (http://bit.ly/1jcgu5P) says:

Schema.org microdata is a structured data vocabulary standard endorsed by major search engines.

Nyet.  _schema.org_ is a structured data vocabulary.  _Microdata_ is a syntax that, along with RDFa and JSON-LD, can be used to mark up schema.org (http://bit.ly/1hhaW7r).

Because of this one can only say, as the study does in it's line item, that 80% of sites contain no "schema.org microdata":  from this one cannot imply what percentage of sites use schema.org.

#schemaorg   #microdata   #rdfa   #jsonld
