I've never understood the enthusiasm over content apps. HTML5 and mobile responsive design will make the open web much more attractive.

Apps should be used only when engaging in non-web or asynchronous data. An app is a logical approach when it does something on your device that wouldn't require or be facilitated by a website.

A mobile friendly website... well, that's just a mobile friendly website.
 
Having an app for your site is just one major block I have to get through to see your content. I honestly hate Android Websites that constantly scream: Why not download our app!
 
+Alexander Conroy its not just Android alerts. iOS is plagued by "me too" apps websites as well.
+Brian Clark agreed. Plus with great starting points like Twitter Bootstrap it makes it even easier to create responsive websites.
