When you're my age, many things baffle you. Door handles, for example. The latest mystery for this old timer: Tumblr. Who uses it? How does it differ from Facebook? From Twitter? Why is a survivor of the micro-blogging mini-boom of 2011 so hot? What do you get out of it?

This confirms everything my parents told me about the East Coast when I was a little kid.

Story
Tagline
Forbes tech writer.
Introduction
Some Brian Caulfields work in tech. Some other Brian Caulfields write. I'm the Brian Caulfield who writes about tech.
Bragging rights
I joined Forbes' Silicon Valley bureau in 2007. Since then I've fed a laptop to a tiger, staked out a warehouse filled with Apple computers, outsourced my job so I could spend more time writing titles for porn flicks, raced cupcake cars, tried to shoot a laptop computer with a grenade launcher, and outraged most of the gaming press by predicting that Apple would become a force in handheld gaming. I've written cover stories on Facebook funder Peter Thiel and graphics-chip specialist Nvidia. I've interviewed Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini, adult film star Sasha Grey, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. I tried not to take it personally when Steve Jobs called my laptop "fat." As the Oakland Tribune's Bill Brand used to say: beats working for a living.
