Is Google Movie listings broken?
http://www.google.com/movies

I can't get it to display anything other than:
"No movies matched your query."

Is there an alternative site that doesn't bombard you with a multi-step/page process of graphics and ads ??
+You · Search · YouTube · Maps · Play · News · Gmail · Drive · Calendar · More · Translate · Books · Wallet · Shopping · Blogger · Finance · Photos · Even more from Google · Sign in. Hidden fields. Search Movies. Showtimes for Marlborough, MA. Change Location. › Today ...

Actually, I take it back. They are just less broken. Firefox/IE work based on your current detected location, but they don't let you change your location ... Not very helpful when you work 35 miles from home :-(

It's simply the difference between chatting and emailing. A picture in a text/IM is simply a disposable piece of the conversation, usually not worth saving as with an email.

All the unimportant programs have been removed, most notably Google Now (that devastates the phone). This phone has always been like this, especially in low signal (3G) areas. If you notice the Awake meter it isn't extremely high considering that the screen was on the whole time.

Replacing the battery on a 2.5 year old phone would simply be throwing away money.

+Aaron Lintz That's because by default Chrome is now allowed to run in the background. That can be disabled (it should appear in the systray).

As novel as the new app is, i'm disabling it in favor of the extension. Not having a way to launch the app without going into Settings->Extensions is pretty annoying.

So on my brand new phone I decided to try some new things. I'm using Hangouts for texting with my Google Voice number, instead of using the old Google Voice app. This has the advantage of not splitting up your messages with a single person into a thousand separate (unscrollable/unsearchable) threads. They've also merged your Hangouts/IM and texts/SMSs with a single contact into a well-labeled single conversation stream (while maintaining the ability to easily choose how you respond).

BUT, now you can no longer use the Google Voice app or WEBSITE?!? Well that sucks. I found that to me incredibly convenient for listening to my voicemail on a PC. Also, they haven't updated the Hangouts PC/Chrome app, so your conversations aren't merged ... which is quite annoying (FIX THIS!!!). I suppose this is a tolerable tradeoff for reducing the number of apps i use.

Now I just gotta get my last few friends off of texting-only flows, because i refuse to pay for unlimited texting (I'm looking at you +Andrew Phillips ). I still have to deal with the BS known as MMS "Group Messaging" that some people love, and GV doesn't support. Perhaps when I have a family (3+) of smartphones I'll switch to an unlimited texting plan, but not today my friend :)

So, I technically still have a Skype account, which I only look at one a month (at best) whenever I reboot my work computer to install updates (Skype logs in on Windows boot). Apparently almost everyone on my Online list have a fake status, and aren't really there. After a few Google searches it appears that this is a fairly common problem.

Q: Does anyone still use this program? Can I simply delete it forever? The only use-case I've ever heard from people was for doing a video-chat between grandparents & grandkids.

I tried having Skype on my phone many eons ago, but its affects on battery life and cpu performance we're evident immediately! So it got axed fairly quickly.

I've tried data calls with Hangouts/GoogleVoice, but I've found that the audio quality was very inconsistent. It didn't matter if I used 3G/4G or WiFi, it was generally pretty sucky.

I don't use my GV# often, mainly only for international calls. But yes, its VOIP back-end  definitely degrades the call quality. Relatives have complained about quality when I call them. When they call me on my normal line it sounds fine.

I have a Comcast (VOIP) home phone (cordless) plugged into my router, and it sounds noticeably better than my cellphone. I don't think I catch which direction (good or bad?) you were hinting on this. Is a pure land-line still available anymore?

I just did a factory reset on my phone, and now it's smooth like butter. Perhaps I should try not installing/updating anything?

I installed #Facebook again this weekend and my phone went back to having grey reception/wifi bars. I just removed it and now it's back to full function (& blue bars).

This means that I will be without the app on my phone until further notice (probably when I get a new phone in the Fall).

(note: when grey, all Google push data stops. texts, email, chat, etc)

The week's only begun, but it looks like the Sony Xperia Z2 is the phone for me, the question is when/if Verizon will get it. Dedicated camera button && 128GB microSD slot, huzzah !!

I used to use a separate camera program that allowed reprogramming the volume button on the galaxy nexus, but the photos didn't come out as nice, and I eventually needed to free up space anyways
