Got Trickerion to the table this past weekend. This game is so tight. Every single action is extremely important and there is lots of planning to make sure they all go off right. I was a little worried that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it really did. Seems like there is lots of depth here.

If anyone has played more Trickerion more than a couple times I'd love to hear your thoughts on the replayability of the game.

Scythe was always high on my list to do a custom box insert for but I always put it off. Then the expansion came out and I decided it was time. It took long enough but it is done and the plan are available for free if you want to store Scythe and its (first) expansion a bit better.

Great Western Trail is a game that caught my attention before Essen last year.
I had recently played Russian Railroads by Alexander Phister and was interested in looking at some of his other games. So when GWT came along I was on board - even if it was a game about driving cattle. Fast forward to today - we are Spotlighting the game on our site all this month. That means that each week we will be producing some kind of content about the game. Check out our Spotlight article for our thoughts on the game and information about a giveaway.

Everybody knows the current hotness or games that routinely make top x lists. But there are some truly great games that just don't get the attention they deserve. What do you think are some hidden gems of the hobby that people should know about?

Risk Europe hit the table last night. It is one of the best versions of Risk that I have played. Players use cards to take actions - 2 per round - and you don't get your cards back until you have played all of them. This creates an interesting decision space. You also have different kinds of units and castles you can build which makes combat feel quite different. Your special units use the "roll higher than X to hit" method. Lastly, while you can wipe out your opponents, this is not the focus of the game. Instead, you are trying to take and hold cities across the board to earn crowns. The first player to earn 7 crowns and holds then until the end of a round is the winner.

I really enjoyed this game even though it was a first play. I am sure subsequent plays will be even more fun as we are accustomed to the rules.

I could see this being a great way to introduce someone to the hobby who likes Risk. Thumbs up from me!

I'm curious, how you most often get your board game media? Please vote and then let us know in the comments what specific sources of that type you use. i.e. If you mostly listen to podcasts, which are your favorites?

If you can think of other types please mention them too.

Edit: The more I think about this I realized that I could have done a better job setting this up. Thanks for voting, and keep commenting your input.

We had some fun creating a video to highlight our top 5 games. It's short so it won't take up much of your time. Well, what are you waiting for? And, no, the image doesn't represent the top 5 (even if a couple do show up on it).
