This excellent alarm clock app was available as a free trial then you had to pay. Recently, Google bought the company that made it and now it's just free (including all the premium features). Instead of typing in numbers to set the time, you just swipe your finger on the screen. The alarm itself has a lot of cool features to ensure you wake up and don't just hit snooze over and over again. It also features a timer that you can set as easily as turning a dial. At first, I thought it was a dustmop, then I realised that this little canine rasta is actually a dreadlocked poodle.

FYI, 1993 was 20 years ago. "I'm not good with computers" is no longer an acceptable excuse for being unable to do basic things.

I've just read a little "human interest" story in a magazine that I thought would make a neat little bit of local color for a fantasy game. Vietnam has 80 known species of snake. 79 are poisonous and the last one is a giant python that will crush you to death.

Apparently, in the Mekong delta region, snakebites are not uncommon but going to the hospital is a real journey involving motorbikes, boats, and monkey bridges. Rather than trying to go to the hospital and dying on the way, the people go to their local snakebite healer. The article I read was about an old woman who has been doing it ever since she was little and saw her grandmother treat someone. She has an herb garden in front of her house so she doesn't need to waste time gathering wild herbs for her herbal remedies.

When someone is bitten, she studies the bite to determine what kind of snake it was so she can prepare the right mixture of herbs to treat the poison. The recipes of her herbal remedies are a family secret, but she never accepts any money for her treatments. It just struck me as being like something out of a game: the swamp is full of poisonous snakes, but the village has an old woman who will give you "cure poison" potions for free.

I had this idea a long time ago but never got around to trying it. I was inspired to give it a go by +Wil Wheaton 's recent post of his chili vodka. This is Vietnamese rượu đế (a sort of rice liquor) that I infused with black peppercorns and then mixed with fresh squeezed pomelo juice. It's sweet, tangy, and spicy.

I had to get a new SIM card for my new phone. I still have the same phone number but I lost all the contacts stored on the old chip. If you want me to have your number, then please send me a text message and tell me who you are so I can save your number. Thanks!

Merry Christmas from Vietnam! My moon lute is a pentatonic instrument and doesn't have a B note and the only Fs are too high or too low, but I think I managed to hit the notes I needed with some clever string bends on A and E.
