i used to always use amazon, but just recently placed a order online and picked it up 2 hours later, ordered a 8 gallon bucket, some cheese cloth, wine yeast, wine labels and star san cleaner, when i picked it up the guys were very friendly and kool to deal with, when i got hom i noticed i was given beer yeast instead and was missing some cheese cloth, i called the guys up and they apologized and and told me to come back and they would fix it, and indeed they did, to me that meant alot how they acted and treated me to make me happy, the store is really kool makes you want to just hang out there all day, prices are so super cheap makes me wonder how they can stay in business they blow all the online retailers away..my business will be with them from here on out..what makes me want to keep my business with them was how professional they were with my order issue and how fast and friendly they were with me..i highly suggest you give them a try you wont regret it..parking is not the best but here is a trick i do, their is a gas station across the street, park there and put the gas nozzle in your car and go shop..gas attendent cant say anything cause you can just say you are going to buy gas weather you do or dont.. ;)

Finally, Chicago has a true local homebrew shop. The store is small and cluttered, but they tend to have everything I need. The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to help. The recipe builder online is a great tool, especially for those brewing all grain. It gives you the ability to select the exact grains you need. The next day, your grains are measured, milled, and ready for pickup. It’s great to be able to purchase just what I need rather than wasting or storing excess grain. Brew Camp is the place to go for novice and expert brewers alike.

Oh man. For the novice this is totally overwhelming, and I am certainly a novice. Most thankfully, the service is on another level, and we can all benefit from such knowledgeable stewardship through the aisles of beer books, syrups, yeast, flaked corn and just about everything else for the homebrewer. A pal of mine who happens to be a budding homebrewer started to itch as soon as we walked in, and that he didn't end up spending dozens of his hard-earned ducats was nothing short of extraordinary.

I want to score this place well because I'm happy that it exists, but I just can't. We were so excited to brew our second beer, a strawberry blonde ale, and asked one of the on staff experts about what ingredients we needed to make the american blonde base possible. Blonde Ale must have been mentioned about 20 times, and we put our blind faith in the guy. We brewed the beer, things weren't smelling like we thought they should but we shrugged it off and assumed the flavor would taste different than the smell after the brewing process. Cut to two months later (today), so excited to try our strawberry blonde, only to discover we had actually made a Wit beer. ...Unfortunately...we both hate Wit beers, and the flavor totally clashes with the strawberries. Also, we have like...50 bottles of the stuff now. To confirm our suspicions they gave us the ingredients for the wrong type of beer, we did a quick google over of recipes for blonde ales and wit beers, and we indeed were given the ingredients for a wit. In a sense, I guess it's our own damn fault for not knowing the ingredients ahead of time before purchasing them, but shame on them for not knowing their stuff : /

Response from the owner - 7 months ago
Hi Mo, I'm sorry to hear the beer didn't turn out the way you expected! As always, the guys at both our Chicago and Evanston locations would be happy to help troubleshoot. Feel free to bring in a bottle for us to diagnose! If we made a mistake on the recipe, we would love the opportunity to make it right. You can always call at 773-784-2400, or email us at cheers@brewcamp.com. - Whit

Even though there are other brew supplies stores closer to me, I always end up going to Brew Camp. They offer a great selection of stuff for prices that seem competitive even with online distributors. When the White House recently released their White House Golden Ale recipe, I spent a while puzzling through the ingredients list before heading to the Brew Camp website, where they had already started selling premade kits of both the extract and all-grain variety, using locally-sourced honey. You can also use the recipe builder on their website to have them package up all of the ingredients for your next beer for easy pick up or local delivery. As if all that wasn't enough, they are just about the friendliest people ever. Even when incredibly busy, they're always willing to make time to answer any questions you might have had pop up in your most recent brewing session. If you're in Chicago and trying to homebrew, Brew Camp is the place to go.

Jared and Whit are awesome, plain and simple. Having never brewed beer before, when I first walked into the shop, they were both more than willing to answer any questions I had. They want you to get interested in brewing, and their enthusiasm is contagious.
