Stream for java.util.Enumeration
While it is encouraged to use a Iterator in preference to a Enumeration , the Enumeration is still widely used. One such use is within ServletRequest#getAttributeNames which returns an Enumeration<String> . With JSR-335 it's much more expressive to use a la...

Java Streams - Action and Continue
I was talking to someone who wanted to be able to perform an action on a stream without causing a terminal operation. To me the solution seemed obvious; use a map operation which returns the input for the output after performing an action on the object. Con...

Migrating to JDK 8 with NetBeans
One of the most widely anticipated features for JDK 8 has been the inclusion of lambda expressions into the language. If you're like me, you've been eagerly following this since before JDK 7 was released. I got my hunger satisfied by using lambda expression...

Although, facebook feels like world of Warcraft, and google+ feels like Rift. One is a whore, whilst the others polished but not followed !!!

The Power of the Arrow
After converting projects to JDK 8 I've been opening my eyes to opportunities where I could simplify or better express a block of code by using lambdas and the new collections API's. This post is to share with you some of what I have done and how you might ...

I altered the sharing on my picassa albums from public to circles and now they all appeared in my feed, is this expected behaviour? :S

Ah, I used to use picassa back in the day, then just stopped one day. I think DropBox reduced the need :)

Google+ does seem to be quite nice, only just opened it up and it looks promising.

Just a guy having fun programming and playing guitar
Introduction
Bit of a geek but I like to have fun too. I love playing guitar, electric blues mostly. I also play metal, punk and sometimes bluegrass. My favorite band is Van Halen.

I'm an application developer with a strong interest in learning new languages. Some of the languages which I use regularly with strong proficiency include Java, C#, C, Objective-C, JavaScript, Perl, Progress ABL, Bash, ksh. SQL. Being a web developer I also have a strong proficiency for markup languages including HTML, CSS, XAML, Jade and actively participate in the WHATWG. I'm anal about correct markup, and have a keen interest in reactive sites. I like coming up with tricks in the dom to reduce the need for Javascript, like hiding something on load.

I write a blog, though not always frequently. I call it Eyes Closed and Programming due to the fact that my eyesight isn't the best, so I learned to program with my eyes closed so that I can concentrate on models in my head.

I'm pretty active but don't get out as much as I used to. I ride mountain bikes, skate (occasionally) and other similar activities.

I'm a family guy with a cool son and awesome partner.
Bragging rights
I blog, play guitar, know a few programming languages and have a pretty cool son and partner.

We purchased a beautiful 6 seat glass top dining setting with four cube stools which are all very comfortable and saw a lot of use during summer that all folds away nicely which is covered by a brilliant weather cover when not in use. We also got a cute 2 seat patio set which is a great addition to our outdoor environment.
