Today's Good News, Bad News  Award Winner: Android Device Manager enabled me to locate my daughter's missing phone. Turns out our baby sitter had it and racked up 8 GB of web surfing in 2 days.

Thankfully I have unlimited data on all our phones. Sadly, while she didn't take it maliciously (it was in her backpack where my daughter had placed it when they went to the pool), she had apparently freaked out (because of the surfing) and lied about having it 3 times.

I'm usually hardcore, cut-and-dry in these events; one lie means complete and final banishment. However, I'm making an extremely  rare exception as I think she really is a good kid who made a stupid mistake. She'll have to sincerely apologize to my daughter, who I've hammered for 2 days for losing her phone and feel REALLY bad about it, and then she'll have to re-earn our trust. I'm hoping/thinking this can be a learning experience that will help her throughout her life: do NOT  lie to those that trust you, because, no matter who you are, you will not find very many people who really trust you throughout your entire life.

We'll see how it goes; fingers crossed. :)

Today's Welcome to the Jungle  Post: Oppressive Heat (105°) + Unbearable Humidity (> 60%) = Houston today, and why the USA Men's Soccer team practiced here to get ready for Brazil.

Weather really doesn't, because it really can't, get worse than we're experiencing today. <sweaty ugh>

I hear ya. I lived in Phoenix for 5 years and saw > 120° every summer...at < 20% humidity. I'll take that over this every day. lol

There's no shame in admitting that Ronda Rousey would kick my hiney, because she'd kick most guy's hineys. :)

I had both of my girls watch her story segment on +ESPN. Not that I want them to be +UFC - Ultimate Fighting Championship fighters, although I'd put my 6 year old up against anyone her age, rather that I respect her don't take crap from anyone, and don't ever think you can't accomplish something  attitude.

Dear parents who scream instructions to kids during sports. Contrary to what you may think, they do NOT  hear you.

Encouraging words? Sure, I guess, but they don't hear that either. If they do, then you're just distracting them from focusing on the game.

This is why I'm always sure to have my headphones on during my girls' games; listening to the idiocracy surrounding me is too much to bear w/o commenting on it. I'd be able to suffer fools if there were a LOT  less of them around. :)

If they are gonna yell, they should yell the truth. "You're my retirement plan...No pressure!" or "Totally reliving my life through you!"

Still champing at the bit to get the update that will allow you to launch Google Search by saying "OK, Google"  from any app, including the lock screen.

They're rolling it out in stages, but .... want, NOW! :)

The new era of Identity Scrubbing  on the internet has just begun.
The only surprise is that it took this long. This week, the French entrepreneurs behind Reputation VIP, an online-reputation management service for "brands and VIPs," launched Forget.me. It's an online tool to help Europeans submit "right to be forgotten" requests to Google, in the wake of a European Court of Justice ruling (pdf) that people should be able...

Dear +Google+, it would be nice to have a web page available on the desktop for Google Now cards.

I know they'll show up in notifications, but I'd also like a dedicated page for pulling them up manually, just like it works on cellphones when you launch Google Search.

Today's Sweet, it finally works!  Award Winner: Saying 'OK, Google' from ANY screen now works.

Yep, just shared my own post...'cause this now makes Google Now voice searches ubiquitous and a no-brainer. Really, really cool. Give it a go. It'll become second nature before you know it. :)

Today's Mobile Security PSA  Award Winner: A factory reset does NOT  delete all of your personal data from your cellphone.

I've seen this firsthand, and this article sums it up nicely. If your phone is going to someone, anyone, else but you, be sure to delete all info yourself before  doing a factory reset.
If you plan on selling or donating your smartphone and want to make sure all of your data is off of it, make sure you do more than just factory reset through the phone's OS. Security researchers picked up several phones "wiped" this way, and found tons of data.

Well played Chinese Internet Users, well played: road in front of US Embassy in China may be called Snowden Street.
Internet users in China are rallying to retaliate against the United States Congress, which is threatening to rename part of the street in front of the Chinese embassy after the political dissident Liu Xiaobo. The most common Chinese counter-suggestion is to name the street where the US embassy in Beijing is located after the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, but there are many more....
