Predatory lending has victimized countless Americans who are struggling to get by, living paycheck to paycheck. For years these struggles have gone unaddressed as either governments did nothing to regulate the lenders or predatory lenders found ways to avoid the spirit of regulations by making small changes to their loans but not solving the actual predatory nature of them. Now, however, that may be changing, and it may be changing in a way that prevents some auto repossessions.

A reader has alerted me to this case, which appears to hold that "the appearance of impropriety" is the wrong standard under Kentucky law for conflicts and disqualification. Good. As I tell my students, the problem with that standard is...

I knew on a conscious level that, if you dropped a ball and a feather in a vacuum with no air resistance, the two would fall at a same rate. But I couldn't imagine it in my head: my inner simulator insisted on visualizing it as if there was air in the room. Until I saw the video, that is.
Physicist Brian Cox of the BBC Two program Human Universe recently visited the world’s largest vacuum chamber at NASA’s Space Power Facility outside of Sandusky, Ohio, to demonstrate the effects of...

I agree, +Joseph Clay Thompson .  I almost didn't share it for exactly that reason.  But getting to see the vacuum chamber itself kind of made up for that.

Companies keep their employees from leaving for the competition with surprising regularity.

+Sean Cooper , yeah, it really confirms for me what these agreements really are in most instances, which is a way to terrorize otherwise-fungible employees.

One knows to walk toward where police are standing, where they mark the significance of something else: a parade, a concert, a demonstration, or an arrest, an abuse, an accident. One can go to enjoy them — to watch their offer of theater and ritual to daily occurrences, as they establish a space of eventfulness — or to watchdog them, to make sure that their handling of people can’t occur invisibly and unaccounted for.

Very good. It's the genre that counts, not the age. This fits right in

Why should you ignore the auto insurance companies' barrage of slick, over-produced advertising and get your coverage through an independent insurance agent? What do you think Michigan Association of Professional Insurance Agents ( #MIPIA )? +Michigan Association of Insurance Agents? +YAC Michigan+Independent Agents & Brokers of America?

It's because insurance is such an amazingly profitable racket that they can spend billions out of their profits just to scrap over how many suckers are captured by each company.  States should have their own auto insurance operations.  It would also have the virtuous result of giving states the financial incentive to get bad drivers off the road.

The food and atmosphere are excellent, as is the draft beer selection. Service was great as well.

On March 24, 2015, I received an incredibly creepy and scare-mongering voice mail directing me to call this company in order to get home security protection. It's far from what I would expect from a reputable firm, especially since I have no business relationship with them and the number they called is on the no-call list. I'd stay far away from them.

Fair, responsible, reliable, reasonable, skilled -- what more can I say? I've a Saab owner who's been bringing my cars to Lakeshore since they first opened in 2002, and I have never been disappointed.
