Brazos Heritage Society's posts

The next big event for Brazos Heritage Society is our ANNUAL MEETING! The meeting will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the Brazos Center with a reception to follow.

I am excited to announce that our guest speaker this year will be from the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, coming all the way from Waco to share the history of this fascinating group of Texas lawkeepers.

I would like to invite everyone to join us for this event. You do not need to be a current member to attend.

Join us at Boonville Days this Saturday from 9-4 p.m. at the Brazos Center in Bryan! We'll have a table set up inside with displays of some antique items and information about Temple Freda and the Turner-Peters Dogtrot Cabin restoration project.

Our next event will be participating in Boonville Days, hosted by the Brazos Museum of Natural History on Saturday, October 4. I hope you'll come out and enjoy the many great exhibits, including the Brazos Heritage Society!

Thanks again for everyone who joined us on July 4th for our 28th Annual 4th of July in Heritage Park. We had a wonderful turnout, the weather was great, and it looked like everyone was having a good time. I especially want to thank all of the sponsors, exhibitors, and donors who made this community event a success! We're already looking forward to next year.

Join the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for their summertime "Nature Nights." This week's focus is on fossils.

We have an opportunity for KORA to do a remote broadcast at our 4th of July event, but we need sponsors to help us make it happen!

On Friday, August 1, 2014 at 7 p.m., the Brazos Heritage Society is sponsoring a presentation titled "The Texas Presidency: How David G. Burnet, Sam Houston, Mirabeau Lamar, and Anson Jones Shaped Texas History." The presenter, Ben Zimmer, is the son of local College of Medicine professor Warren Zimmer and a sophomore majoring in history and Asian studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

This event will be held at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History's Discovery Room. It is free to the public and I would like to encourage all Brazos Heritage Society members to attend and support this young man's scholarly research into Republic of Texas history. A reception will follow the presentation.

28th Annual Fourth of July in Heritage Park

Join us on Friday, July 4, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in Heritage Park at 30th St. and Hutchins in Bryan for our annual Old-Fashioned Independence Day celebration. We will offer our traditional flag-raising ceremony, patriotic music, children's parade, and refreshments at yesteryear's prices. As in the past, a number of exhibitors will set up booths showcasing their organizations, and we will hold a silent auction. The auction will feature wonderful items from local merchants and craftspeople, along with some fantastic new items from Texas sports teams and Disneyland, California! Mark your calendars and check back for additional information as the time draws near.
