What is Blood Alcohol Content?
The definition of blood alcohol content is the concentration of alcohol in one's bloodstream, expressed as a percentage. Blood alcohol content, or BAC, is used to determine whether a person is legally intoxicated, especially under a driving while intoxicated law. In the field of traffic safety, BAC is expressed as the percentage of alcohol in deciliters of blood – for example, 0.10% . A 160-pound man, for instance, will typically have a BAC of approximately 0.04% one hour after consuming two 12-ounce beers or two other standard drinks on an empty stomach. All State Laws have specific driver BAC limits. Operating a vehicle while having a BAC over the limit is illegal. In the State of Georgia, the BAC limit is .08% or higher for a person over the age of 21 operating a passenger vehicle, and .04% or higher if a person over the age of 21 is operating a commercial vehicle. Did you know that impairment is not determined by the type of drink, but rather by the amount of alcohol consumed over time? A standard drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits. The average person metabolizes alcohol at the rate of about one drink per hour. Just because you don’t “feel” buzzed, does not mean that you are not over the legal limit to drive. Don’t leave your future to chance. If you or someone you know has been arrested for a DUI, contact Scott today. (912) 489-8621 http://brannenlawpc.com/
