For a lot of gamers (including myself), Zelda A Link To The Past is one of those iconic pieces of art. Widely regarded as one of the best games of all time, A Link To The Past is part of a whole library of stellar Zelda games that routinely blew gamers' minds when they were released.

The retro video-game market rakes in around 200 million dollars annually. This despite the fact that we live in a bit-torrent age where consumers want and expect free entertainment. The reason for this paradox is simple: Just as art collectors eschew reproductions for the real deal, retro game collectors want the original.

Resident Evil is a shining, gore-and-splatter-soaked testament to what the survival horror genre is capable of. It’s incredibly violent, incredibly tense and offers players one of the best thrill rides put on gaming screens.

Following the 1992 movie's success, Aladdin for the SNES was released in 1993 by Capcom. But it wasn't the only Aladdin game around at the time. As a matter of fact, it was one of three separate titles, all of which were being developed by different studios.

Welcome to the future. In this world, humanity has apparently run out of things to entertain themselves. The mega-rich have been upping the ante steadily to the point where only one thing can really get their adrenaline racing again – racing extreme machines that hover several feet above the ground. F-Zero is an entertaining racer set in a futuristic universe (that frankly sounds awesome).

32-bit systems were on the rise, and Sega was now getting into the game with the Sega Saturn. Due to the massive success of games like Donkey Kong Country, the Super Nintendo was still a popular player in the genre.

These were just a few more awesome sequels to get the juices flowing. Luckily for us, the gaming world seems to have the edge on Hollywood, and we should be able to print another list of solid franchise sequels in the near future.

2016 was a spectacular year for games. Major franchises one-upped themselves with fantastic sequels, long-awaited games delivered on their promises and several indie games absolutely stole the hearts and minds of gamers worldwide.
