So, some of the homework I had in one of my classes is in regards to python. I at first thought the entire class was going to be python, but so far it has barely been mentioned. The few time it has it was just comparing another language to it.

I have been working at this assignment for hours and gotten absolutely no where. I mean nothing is working. Everything is erroring out. I have very little experience with python, but is something I would like to learn, just... lol, school has gotten in the way. Irony.

Turns out, this python is written in Python 1.5.1 from 1998. Half of it doesn't work in the newer versions of Python. I dropped all the way down to 2.1 and still was getting no where. So, I try to download the old version on python's website and they don't even offer the 1.5.1 .exe anymore and only had binaries. They did have version 1.5.2 from 1999 which was the last version of 1.5 released.

The funniest part is the message that greeted me on the page. " Do yourself a favor and get a more recent version!"

This class has been money well spent.

If you want to get as far back as python 1.5.2, you're probably going to have to compile it yourself, man.  That's probably not going to go very smoothly on a Chromebook.

Has anyone else had terrible service from +Comcast the last 3+ months? Here I am, yet again, without service. It is starting to get old. Why even bother contacting customer service?

I got burned this time. It just had to happen at the absolute worst times. Need an Internet connection for school? Well, how about 5-10k latency instead. I reboot their crap modem and now I can't even get it to reconnect.

This is a constant battle. I am constantly seeing that "your Internet connection is unstable" message on on my phone. I mean it is a daily occurrence. Pretty sad I am having to tether to my phone to get my work done. On rare occasions this even bleeds into my cable TV. Where my cable starts acting up and at times even stops working completely.

This just really pisses me off, and to have it rubbed in my face with this +Comcast and +Time Warner Cable fiasco. I am stuck with comcast and have no other real choice, and just let me get this straight..... Your argument when buying +NBC was that there was plenty of competition that would keep you honest. I believe you even specifically mentioned TWC as competition. Now, when trying to buy TWC, all of a sudden they aren't your competition? I read the initial reasoning, and immediately got pissed off. It is a total contradiction to the NBC argument.

This is exactly why +Comcast won the Consumerist's Worst Company in America Award. The sad thing, is TWC was in the final four.

Yep, you just described a problem with a distribution amp alright.  Be glad you weren't trying to report a problem with the thing not being on UPS power.  Every time the power went out (and so did my internet) I'd call Comcast just to have them say "No one else in your neighborhood is having a problem"--to which my response was "Well, that's probably because everyone else is sitting around in the dark.  We have UPSes here."

Off topic: I know many here are tech minded people and wanted to see what others opinions were on this topic.

I over plan and research anything that interests me. I tend to hyperfocus on them and put a large amount of time and energy into projects. I am starting to plan the purchase of a new laptop type device now that Haswell has been out for a while.

I am sort of interested in tablets, but I have found tablets fail the "reach for" test. Once I replaced an s3 with a Note 2 I found I no longer reached for my Nexus 7. When I owned a transformer 1st Gen I rarely reached for it over my Cr -48 Chromebook.

I was really excited at the thinkpad yoga, but am severely disappointed in the price. I just don't feel the hardware is worth the price tag. I feel the stylus of my note 2 was one of the reasons I preferred it to my Nexus 7. Yoga 2 pro looks nice, but I have read bad things regarding some issues it's having. I am just not sure I would use the tablet part enough to warrant it's purchase.

I would likely run Linux as my daily driver on this machine. So compatibility with Linux is something I am needing. What I am seeing is that the newer windows ultrabooks are just overpriced for what they offer. Seeing windows ultrabooks out price apple hardware just boggles my mind. Like the Dell XPS 13 that comes preloaded with Ubuntu, costs more than a macbook air, and not everything in Ubuntu runs right out of the box. Kind of a fail if you ask me.

It has me debating something I'd never of expected, buying another apple product. It would just be a laptop, and likely wouldn't even keep their software, but I am just baffled that I can't seem to find any hardware I'm happy with that doesn't have major compromises.

What opinions, advice, or experiences do you guys have?

I currently do have a windows desktop at home. It used to be my gaming machine, but haven't really gamed in years. I have a windows work laptop as well, so I don't need windows for anything. I am actually working at purging all windows products. Desktop will likely lose windows after I graduate next semester. I've had a few windows specific classes that have kept me from wiping it.

Hell, I guess if I went Mac might try Mac os or for a bit. It does have access to terminal. I guess learning the OS could come in handy, especially since I haven't touched a mac since middle school.

I have no real desire for any iOS products. I actually tend to dislike them. With iPhones it is a mixture of a few things. I have always hated the size, but really it comes down to the software. I am a tinkerer and love the openness of Android. I am constantly looking for new/better ways to enhance the way i use my phone.

A new thing I started testing yesterday was a newer feature of Action Launcher. It makes it Quickdrawer and Quickpage sliding drawers system wide. The left drawer all of your apps in a list with quick A-Z shortcuts. The Quickpage is a kind of drawer that you can put widgets, shortcuts, folders, recent apps etc. The setting allows you to swipe from the left or right edge at any time to access them. What makes this interesting, is you can make your default launcher GEL or Aviate for example, and the action launcher feature still works. Not quite sure if it is my favorite implementation or not, but quite interesting.

I am more looking for an ultrabook type device, but I have certain checkboxes that must be checked, and finding finding most Windows manufacturers are delivering below par products with premium price tags. That or the ones that are actually nice will be at or above Apple macbook pro/air prices.

I was talking to some people today about a Asus ultrabook that I am baffled by. It starts at 1800 dollars and has subpar battery life. This model has integrated graphics, 256 ssd, 8 gb ram and a haswell i5. Sounds pretty typical, but does have a 1440 reso screen. 1800 dollars? really? It has a higher end model for 2200 with 2 256 ssd in raid 0. I don't even really know what to say.... I'm sure they are great machines, but come on, these are stupidly overpriced. The raid 0 just seems more gimmicky than anything.

The analogy I used to express how I felt was someone renovating their house. They have a 250k house and renovate its value to 1.2 million. The neighborhood maxes out at 450k and has a low end of 200k. They will never be able to sell their house because they have outpriced their neighborhood. Unless they find someone who doesn't know any better, or they let it sit on the market until they have to lower the price down into the red. For less than 1800 you can get a macbook pro retina with twice the SD storage, higher res display, more battery life, and likely better build quality.

I am more looking for conversation in regards to any of the newer haswell ultrabooks. The actual real world battery life, build quality, and stuff like that. From what i have seen window shopping, I have been highly disappointed.

I ran with only owning a CR-48 Chromebook for a personal laptop for a long time. I have sense purchased a laptop that is in between ultrabook and laptop. It has nice specs, wuad i7, 8 gb ram, and had plans to replace its HD with an SSD and put the spinning drive in a caddy where the cd tray went. Its a little over 4 lbs and about double the thickness of an ultrabook with 14in screen.

I had originally planned to upgrade to 16gb ram when I upgraded to SSD, but I have found that the battery life just does not live up to it's 6 hrs it had listed. Also, the screen is absolutely terrible. After using it for a while I found the viewing angles to be terrible. I have to position it at just the right angle for it to be clear. more your head less than an inch and it goes cloudy.

So, I am starting to plan my upgrade, but I really don't want to compromise this time. I'd like to at least get 8gb of ram and preferably a 256 ssd, but may be ok with a 128. A 128ssd and 8gb air is 1200 retail.

I might be waiting until after i graduate next semester. Make it a graduation gift to myself since I won't be getting anything else out of it lol. By then there might be new macbooks or maybe even some good competition.
